Steven laws is a relatively new author on the horror scene and he is very good. I have read a few of his,

Somewhere South of Midnight is a book about a strange phenomenon that occurs after a horrific accident on a motorway. Just after midnight, something collides with the south bound traffic, not a car or lorry but something unseen....

The scene was catastrophic with eighty-seven people dead and a burning, twisted wreckage but wait..

Seven survivors there'd be, lucky them or maybe not as all of them are changed somehow.

Harry stark, mourning the death of his family finds he can kill from a single touch. A long distance lorry driver suddenly adopts the power to heal by the laying on of hands, an unscrupulous business man can now eliminate anyone who stands in this way, one lady can now escape from her husband who has been abusing her and another can take revenge on a man who abused her as a child , a artist finds the power to drive people mad. And finally the seventh survivors is caught between worlds, a monstrosity stalking the night.

This is quite a gory book full of terror. The story line is good and equally graphic in contents. It puts a vision in your minds eye and that's what reading a book is all about, using that imagination of yours and this did for me. If you can just imagine what you could do with any one of those powers, healing for the good, taking revenge for the wrong doing of your life... you will enjoy this book completely. Steven Laws has a similar style of writing of James Herbert, so that's probably why I like him, as James Herbert is my favourite horror author. You can still order it from most book shops and you may even find it at boot sales as that's where I get most but not all my books from.

All in all a brilliant terrifying read with some great twists and turns.
