Woohoo, I'm Red. Naughty by name, Naughty by nature. I also post on dooyoo under lilmsnaughty79.
Antoni (Jimmy Carr) is the owner of Confetti Magazine, which describes itself as a Bride's best friend. This year Antoni doesn't want to do the usual thing of selecting a bride of the year and then paying for the honeymoon, he wants to do something different, so he and the Editor, Vivienne (Felicity Montagu) come up with the idea of having a competition for most original wedding of the year. The prize will be a half a million pound dream house. After interviewing lots of couples they decide on the best of a bad bunch. These are Matt and Sam, (Martin Freeman and Jessica Stevenson). A couple who live with Sam's mother and can't wait to move out. They want a musical based wedding, with themselves as the stars, but they are both tone deaf.
The second couple are Michael and Joanna (Robert Webb and Olivia Colman). These are 'naturists' who live on a naturist camp in their VW bus. Michael has been a naturist for a long time, but Joanna is fairly new to the scene, and is not very comfortable being naked in front of other people, especially her mother. They want a naturist wedding in the camps grounds. The third couple is Josef and Isabelle (Stephen Mangan and Meredith MacNeill). They are tennis mad, and want a tennis based wedding, strange idea I know, but the idea is to have an original wedding. They are very competitive and are determined to win the competition.
All three weddings will take place on the same day, in front of judges and the winners will get the keys to their brand new home.Roped in to organise the whole event are wedding planners, gay couple Archie and Gregory (Vincent Franklin and Jason Watkins). They are not too pleased when they realise they have only three months to plan three weddings, but they do say that all of the weddings that they have organised have had the most successful marriages.
This is a British film, and although I've never thought that British comedies were very good, I found this one to be quite enjoyable, but somewhat stupid. The lay out of the film is a Mock Documentary, which I found rather amusing, making fun of all of the Docusoap type programs that seem to be everywhere these days. The dialogue is also entirely improvised. The plot of the film is very thin, and the acting not much to write home about, I've never been a fan of any of the actors really, and they didn't do anything to change my opinion, I did think that all of the couples are cast really well together. My favourite characters were Matt and Sam, who were the most 'conventional' couple, who you could really warm to. I found Josef and Isabelle annoying, which I suppose is meant to happen. They could be very rude, and arrogant.
Jimmy Carr, who I love, and I think he is amazingly witty, has only just ventured into acting, but as made a good transformation from the small screen to the big screen, I did feel though that his comic talents were underused. The story also portrayed the ups and downs of relationships and the hard work that goes into arranging a wedding, I only hope that when it comes to my wedding, I can be more organised. The weddings themselves in the movie do work quite well together even though I do think that there are some strange ideas.
If you are prudish at all, then I wouldn't recommend this film with there being a naturist theme, there is a lot of nudity. Not just a few peeks of bum cheek every now and again, there was a lot of full frontal, and you can't help but look at the male bits, well I am only human.I would recommend this to everyone, as I think that there is something that most people would enjoy. It is predominantly a chick flick, but there are quiet a lot of scenes for the male audience as well.
Overall, I did enjoy this movie, and think that it is one of the best British Comedies that I have seen, but I don't think that it would be one to rush out to see again.

Manufacturer's product descriptionAn improvised mockumentary comedy that sees three couples attempt to win a magazine competition to find the 'Most Original Wedding of the Year'. After the wedding competition is set up by the owner of Confetti magazine - played by the comedian Jimmy Carr, three couples are chosen to compete in the finals and the film charts their progress as they attempt to win their dream marriage. Couple one--comprised of Martin Freeman (THE OFFICE) and Jessica Stevenson (SPACED)--intend to have a musical wedding. Couple two--comprised of the PEEPSHOW duo Robert Webb and Olivia Coleman--are nudists. The third couple of Stephen Mangan (GREEN WING) and Meredith MacNeill (MAN STROKE WOMAN) are obsessed with tennis. This entertaining comedy is notable for its mockumentary style and use of improvised dialogue, a device used by Christopher Guest in the films THIS IS SPINAL TAP and BEST IN SHOW. The film features appearances by several actors familiar from British comedies, such as Felicity Montagu (I'M ALAN PARTRIDGE) and Julia Davis (NIGHTY NIGHT). This frequently amusing, breezy film is a romantic comedy that manages to bring new dimensions to the genre and the use of improvised dialogue adds a freshness to it. Relying on sharp character humour, CONFETTI manages to combine its spoof documentary style and use of a traditional British romantic comedy narrative successfully.
