Advantages: Vegetarian alternatives which taste as good as the originals. Disadvantages: The Christmas pudding requires 8 hours steaming and then a further 2 hours on the day.
a Christmas pudding? Don?t you know how easy it is to do? The hardest part is the initial steaming which takes eight hours but even that?s not difficult so long as you remember to keep the pan topped up with boiling water. I use the kitchen timer to make certain that I check it regularly.

The cooking of the Christmas pudding is done in two parts. There?s a long initial steam when the pudding is made and a shorter one on the day. The quantities given make 2 x 2pt puddings or 4 x 1 pt puddings. I usually make four and then three are given to people as early Christmas presents. They keep extremely well. I once found one that I?d made the previous year and it still tasted wonderful!
