I love this game, and i think alot of other people do too!

Technical info:
the game is a two player simultaneous, it uses 11 blocks on your memory card. If you have a Gameboy advance you can link it up to the gamecube.
There is 12 characters to choose from in the multiplayer mode.

Multiplayer Mode:
There is loads of little games to play, your can race, battle, destroy and search for things with your friends/family. As you progress through the main game you will get new multiplayer games.

Actual Game:
when you play the game, you can either be on the hero team (sonics team) or dark team Shadows teams. [sonics twin rival]) Both the options have a different storyline. There is over 30 action stages with 6 different missions per stage. There are all sorts of levels, and most of them are very fast.
There are hidden items in the game, and there is also an amazing feature where you collect a key in each level and you can got to a place called a chao garden. In the chao garden you get to look after little creatures called chaos (obviously) They are like virtual pets and you have to feed them and look after them. (there is no real point in the chao garden but it is fun when you are bored.) In the main game you can find little animals which you take to the chaos and the chaos get the features of that certain animal.
Some of the levels in the game can be very frustraighting and tough but that makes the game more of a challenge i suppose. In Some levels you have to defiy the laws of gravity and change which way you walk, E.G on the roof, or on the walls. This is very fun nut at times the games make me feel dizzy because it is so fast. Your life is controlled by rings that you collect in a way, such as, if you have no rings and get hit ny an enemy you will die. (but there is such things as sheilds so dont worry too much.) Although i say the game can be hard at times, there is checkpoints throughout the game, so if you die you will go back to the checkpoint!

Graphics/camera/Music:
The graphics for this game are brilliant, there is alot of deatil in everything and are very smooth considering the speed of the game. BUT alot of people really hate some of the camera angles because you cannot change them yourself and because alot of the time you are going so fast, its difficult to see where you are going.
The music is really funky and peppy in this game, it is all fast and goes really well with the game.(a lot of the music is about sonic.)

The controlls to this game are very easy and will take no time to get used to.
I say the lifespan of this game is a long time, because you must complete it with the heros and darks first. Also you will just want to keep going back to your gamecube and playing sonic adventure 2 battle.

Overall i would give this game 9/10. It is really fun to play and any age can play this game and love it.
Thanks for taking the time to read my Op. Mel :-)
