For those of you who don't know, Sonic is a blue hedgehog with incredible speed (which is kinda ironic). It was said that the reason the chose a hedgehog, is because most people in Japan had never seen one before, and were fascinated by it (don't hold me to that, it was late so I can't remember much).
He has this weird obsesssion for running at super-sonic speeds and collecting rings, while over the years being involved with many confrontations with the evil Dr. Robotnic, or as he is now know Dr. Eggman (don't ask me why).
He had this friend, a fox with two tails that acted like helicopter blades- Tails.

30 action stages with over 50 missions
Improved multiplayer modes, featuring new battle stages and classic Kart Racing
12 characters to choose from, including newcomers Metal Sonic, Amy, Chaos Zero and the comical Chaos Walkers
Enhanced Chao mode, boasting new mini games and including exclusive Link-up feature with GameBoy Advance

Story
There is a new threat to civilization, even more powerful than the infamous Dr Eggman (Robotnik), an immortal capable of overthrowing Sonic for good, his name... Shadow the hedgehog!

With the help of his dark allies, our Sonic look alike is causing unimaginable destruction, has Sonic finally met his match? In the most thrilling Sonic adventure ever created, featuring a host of GAMECUBE exclusive enhancements, you decide the outcome- choose to join the dark side and conquer the world or join Sonic, overcome this new evil regin and restore peace to the galaxy...

I found the dark side easier to do :), but both were very hard, due to the fact Sonic could not lock on to objects to bounce off them, and that Eggman could not jump/fly properly either. His gun was quite annoying aswell as it kept trying to lock on , and made a repetitive beep noise.
It will keep a person busy as trying to find everything and complete every challenge is very difficult and time consuming.

Characters
1 player/adventure mode characters include
Hero- Sonic, Tails and Knuckles
In Hero mode, Sonic is on the run from the police, who have mistaken him for the dark hedgehog Shadow.
You and you friends must prevent Shadow and his comrades from achieveing their goal of collecting enough chaos emeralds to make Shadow the most powerful being in existence.
Dark- Shadow, Dr. Eggman (Robotnik) and Rouge the bat
In Dark Mode, you are looking at the game from the opposite side, as Shadow your goal is to collect as many chaos emeralds as you can so you can become the most powerful being in existence, while ridding yourself of Sonic.

2 player battle characters include all the above and Amy Rose (the hedgehog), Metal Sonic, Chao and Dark Chao Walkers, Tikal the Echidna, Chaos Zero. And there are also 2 special characters, unlocked by completing adventure mode- Super Sonic and Hyper Shadow

Modes

2 player battle modes-
Action race battle
Characters for this battle include Sonic, Shadow, Metal Sonic and Amy.
Rules- First to reach the goal wins. When time runs out the leading player wins.

Treasure hunt race
Characters for this include Knuckles, Rouge, Tikal and Chaos Zero.
Rules- First to find emerald shard wins.

Shooting battle
Characters for this mode include Tails, Dr. Eggman and the two Chao walkers
Rules- First to reduce opponents life to zero or knock their opponent out of the ring wins.

Chao Race and Chao Karate- explained further below

Kart Race
This has to be unlocked by completing 1 player kart in Dark and Hero story mode.
Characters for this include Sonic, Shadow, Tails, Dr. Eggman, Knuckles and Rouge.
There are three courses, beginner, standard and expert.

Chao

Raising chaos will also keep you busy, especially when trying to get a chao with certain abilities and personalities, but the ability to repeat levels give you the chance to collect more animals and chaos drives which enhance chao's abilities. Completing Chao events also take up time, especially when the cpu chao levels are higher.
There are two types of Chao events, Chao Karate and Chao Racing. These can be done by one player from the Chao garden, and two players in battle mode.
Winning Chao races and Chao karate can earn you Sonic Emblems or Chao items.
There is also a school to send your Chao to where they learn ablities like digging, drumming, drawing and singing.
In the school there is a Doctor that monitors your Chao's status, a Principal (Head Teacher) that gives you tips on raising Chao and a Fortune teller that helps you name you new born Chaos. There is also a cupboard called the black market where a man sels you stuff you wouldn't get elsewhere in the game. Items change during the game.
There are also there three bonus gardens;
Dark Chao garden- requires you to raise a Chao as evil
Hero Chao garden- requires you to raise a Chao as a hero/ good
Tiny Chao garden- requires you to have a GBA connected, and for a permanent garden, Sonic Advance.

I never thought I'd see the day, when Sega products appeared with the Nintendo name on them. Poor old Sega, loosing out with the Dreamcast (well it was kind of crap wasn't it). It's hard to believe now that Sonic was once more popular than Mario, and people were ashamed to own Nintendo products. Now if you owned a Dreamcast, people ask what was wrong with you? To those who did own Dreamcasts I'm sorry if this offends you, but it's only cause I'm loyal to Nintendo. The characters in this game are very detailed, and so are the levels actually. The game is so fast it is really hard to explore levels, and it is hard to get a good rating aswell, as you have to get a good time and a good amount of coins. ! of the things I didn't like was having to loose loads of coins when you get hit. But that's in every game so I suppose nothing really can change. The speed can't really be changed either cause that's the game. It wouldn't be mcuh fun with a character called Sonic the ever so slight quick hedgehog. To potential buyers, I'd buy it just to see a Sega product on a Nintendo based console, but there may be some die hard Nintendo lovers who couldn't stand owning a Sega product.

I would like to own Sonic Advance aswell so I could access the proper mini chao garden instead of the unsavable one on the no pak link.
Cube rated this game 7.6 out of 10, which is fairly average but a bit low I felt, but I trust their opinions anyway. They have rated Sonic Adventure DX a lot lower though only 6.1, perhaps because it was not really a new game, but simply a Dreamcast game revamped by GameCube technology. It still features the Chao garden though.
Other Sonic games currently out are Sonic Advance 1 & 2, Sonic Mega collection, and soon Sonic Heroes.

Now price wise I would say you could get this now for £20, as I believe it will soon be on the Player's Choice list. Mine was £30, used, but that was only a short time after the game and the Cube where out, so I doubt it will be that much any more.
Gamestation's minimum price, used is £16.
You probably won't get much lower.
