The story revolves somewhat around the world of the Arabian Nights…Sonic is reading the book when a Genie named Sharah appears and asks Sonic to help her restore the world of the Arabian Nights, which is being erased by an evil Genie from Aladdin by the name of Erazor Djinn. Erazor sees Sonic and calls him a "rat" and commands him to collect the 7 World Rings…and puts a Fire like timer on his chest, and if it burns out and he doesn't have the 7 World Rings ready, he will perish along with the Arabian Nights. Sonic teams up with Shahra the Ring Genie to collect the 7 World Rings in time in order to defeat Erazor by harnessing their power.
In this game, the Wii Remote is held in both hands and you control Sonic's movement by either leaning the remote left or right, pressing 2 to make Sonic jump, and using the Directional Pad later on to use two new special moves that enable Sonic to get a huge speed boost and to slow down time around him so he can dodge attacks. The game is a complete on-rails design; however you can change your path just by jumping or moving the right way around obstacles or onto other platforms.
There are 7 worlds or "levels" to perform missions in. All of them have a kind of desert theme, but you won't get bored by what you see. Each world has a sort of different theme assembled. You have a desert, a dinosaur, as well as an Arabian palace…complete with Arabic writing. The worlds are very lush and beautiful to look at…so you won't get bored with them like in past games with horrible level design.
This Sonic game is kind of different, Sonic uses some stuff such as a Catapult to spring him from one point to another, a water log floating in the river, as well as a Flying carpet, and something that looks like a missile to fly through the air. This was an interesting idea, but it was seldom used. The game is setup to where there are 1 tutorial world and 7 main worlds. You unlock new worlds after completing a certain amount of missions from previous worlds. Common missions include such things as: collect a certain amount of Rings, finish the level in a certain time, destroy a set amount of enemies, and as well as race a wind genie (who is just a blue ball of light) called Uhu (which can be really frustrating…if you cuss…you will be cussing A LOT!). After each Mission you will earn experience points to level up with…you will also get a Medal if you performed fast enough, resulting in either a Gold, Silver, or Bronze medal or nothing at all if you didn't finish the mission fast enough. Most of the time I found myself getting Bronze medals or nothing at all…I had maybe a few Gold and Silver medals but not very many. More missions will unlock usually after you beat some others. Be sure to finish all of the missions provided so you can collect the 7 World Rings and get the good ending! Some of the missions can be pretty annoying at times, but you can always come back to them later with better abilities that will help you complete them.
The control, while a wonderful idea, still should've had a little bit more tweaking to it. I constantly found myself falling/jumping to my death off a ledge into the water or pit or death. I was kind of disappointed in the fact that we had to actually use more than the directional pad. As I got further in it seemed easier to jump…but there was still so many times where I plunged to my death, and it just really ticked me off. I noticed that when I had to jump at all even with the special abilities equipped, Sonic was slowed down almost as if he stopped. Sonic is famous for his speed, and he has kind of lost that in this game. I wish they would've designed it to where he won't slow down as much. Too many deaths due to falling off the level has been happening in Sonic games for the past several years, hopefully they will get that fixed in the next game.
What truly annoys me is how the only attack Sonic has is the Homing Attack. I mean he has Speed Break as well, which gives Sonic a huge boost…but it's really only an attack at the final battle as the end of the game. I really don't understand why they got rid of the Spin Dash; that has to be Sonic's most famous attack after all these years. I mean it's not a big loss considering this game was designed around the motion control of the Wii remote, but many Sonic fans still miss the attack that made Sonic so cool. The Homing Attack has been around since Sonic Adventure…and it is an awesome move at times…but it was even better with the attacks Sonic performed in the best 3D Sonic. Basically in this game…you jump when you see an enemy into the air and it will have a green crosshair on it. The green crosshair will turn red and then you thrust the Wii Remote forward each time towards the enemy to attack.
Here is something I have to praise, even though you don't really have to use it very much in the game. Speed Break is a really awesome move that will help you defeat the wind genie Uhu, as well as dodge Erazor's attacks, and finish the level as quickly as possible. This extra speed boost gives Sonic fans what we want…but you can only do it if the Soul Gauge is filled. Time Break is another good idea, but you barely use it at all in the entire course of the game. The move slows down time around you, and you kind of slow down, but it makes it much easier to dodge spikes or attacks or enemies and will help you jump.
If you think this game looks easy, you are definitely going to be surprised at how difficult it is once you get your hands on it. It will probably take you a while to get used to the controls (trust me…I took a while…). I finished the story mode of the game at around 12-13 hours…but that's because I left it on. This game may look short, but after you play it, it won't seem as short as you thought in the beginning. Now you may blaze through some of the missions, but there will be even way more difficult ones after you finish the Story.
The game flows smoothly and can be played in 480p and 16:9 widescreen mode as well as normal 4:3. I played it with the Composite Cables on an HDTV, and the game still looks awesome, so if you think this will look horrible, you are utterly mistaken. This is easily one of the best games graphically on the Wii at the current time…I couldn't be anymore happier. Everything is crystal clear, no graphical glitches as far as I could tell. Even the Camera works right for once…the cameras in past Sonic games always seemed to screw up in one way or another.
In addition to the extra missions, there is a Party mode that has about 40 Mini-games as well as a Special Book that features the History of Sonic as well as events that happened in The Secret Rings. If you do have some friends over, you can play with 3 others in a challenge to see who ranks supreme.
I would have to say that this is the best 3D Sonic game in a long time. It is totally a step in the right direction. Speed Break and Time Break were wonderful ideas that should've been dug into further, and I hope to see them in a future Sonic game. I had tons of fun as well as many frustrating experiences, but the game was so fun to me that I didn't let my frustrations keep me from trying over and over again. When I finally succeeded a challenge, I felt very accomplished and it made me want to try more and more challenges. I eventually blazed through them all and then came to the final battle which is a good challenge in itself.
Overall, Sonic and the Secret Rings is a great game that I definitely recommend to every Wii owner out there. If you are a hardcore Sonic fan, this is the game for you. Even if you aren't a fan, you should still give this game a try because you will have tons of fun with it.
Advantages: Some original party games Disadvantages: Concentrates more on graphics and the "storybook" side of things
...massive fan of Segas previous Sonic the Hedgehog games, I purchased this with high hopes. Although very action packed, with plenty of different games, I felt very disappointed.
The whole game has a Middle Eastern theme and there are two ways in which you can go about playing:

...was flying along. After buying Sonic on the Xbox 360 not so long before this I was a bit worried that it would be as bad but I was pleasantly surprised. It's such an addictive game and really uses the movements of the controller brilliantly. You play as Sonic working your way through 100 missions that are all set in different locations. Some missions you have to get through without being killed, others you must collect a certain amount of rings. ... ...rushing forward whilst jumping or tilting the remote towards you to walk backwards, most of these take a while to get used to but once you have it really makes for good game play. This game also involves mini games that you can play with up to 4 players that are quite fun to do. I haven't actually completed this game yet as I am stuck on one of the levels but I'm sure it won't be long before I manage to complete it. You really get addicted to this ...

Advantages: great price for a good game Disadvantages: repetitive
This is a great sonic game, i am not sure why i am shocked as every game that has sonic in tends to be a great game.
Sonic and the Secret Rings, this is sonic's first solo adventure since the sega megadrive and we have all missed him.
Sonic finds himself in the colorful and vibrant world of the Arabian Nights he goes thhrough a 3D world which is brought to life with realistic water reflections, light bloom, and lifelike physics.
Sonic and the ... ...It is like most sonic games where you can only run in one direction but uses the game play well. The game takes you through a training mode which does not take long to complete and you also unlock more training levels throughout the game when you learn a new move. When you unlock a new level it can be the same as a prevous one but in a different world. This can make the game repetative.
The mulitplayer part of the game is entertaining and good for ...

Advantages: Terrifically Fast Disadvantages: Short-lived
bizarre paradox: they are always seizure inducingly fast and totally linear as a result. Unlike Mario or Crash Bandicoot, who have their wealth of secret levels and alternative routes, Sonic blasts through each level with terrifying speed unable to stop. Even though the newest outing on the Wii ? Sonic and the Secret of the Rings ? looks stupendous, it still suffers from putting the player on a set of invisible train tracks. So unsurprisingly Sonic Rush on the DS is no different to the series.
This time round the plot has something to do with an alternate reality edging its way into Sonic?s, bringing with it Blaze the Cat, who has to retrieve a bunch of Sol emeralds (there is ALWAYS a bunch of freaking emeralds) from the thieving Dr. Eggman and stop both worlds merging. Initially you start off as Sonic, but after completing the first Act ...
