systems for business critical data applications, the S-AIT1 drive delivers an incredible 500 GB capacity and is the first tape drive to break through the 1TB barrier (1.3TB compressed) in an industry standard 5.25" form factor.Whats more, the S-AIT1 drive can store, access and manage data faster than ever before. With an impressive transfer rate of up to 78MB/s (30MB/s uncompressed), valuable time saved can be used to concentrate on other, more important tasks at hand. The S-AIT1 internal drive is suitable for installation into pedestal & rackmount servers that can accommodate a full height (5.25 inch) device. Installation is also possible into external rack mount tape drive enclosures or a custom-built drive housing. Check Sonys server compatibility for full details. To aid easier integration, Sony provides drive rails in the box for installation into the popular Intel SC5300 pedestal or rackmount server chassis.

S-AIT has been developed to address the ever-increasing high-end storage needs of data intensive network environments. Sony AME (Advanced Metal Evaporated) media continues to be a key enabling technology.
Advantages: small, lots of storage and really reliable Disadvantages: less portable than a small form hard disk drive, needs main to use
...This is my second hard drive. The first one I bought was a sony vaio that I bought off of ebay - a portable 120GB hard disk drive from the far east. It started giving me disk read and write errors about three to four months after I bought it. Moral of the story, buy from a reputable manufacturer and seller.
So I bought this from Amazon co uk, who are by far a superior online seller. Prices have come down and i managed to get this for £60 including free delivery. The drive is compact, not portable.
It needs to be plugged into mains as well as the computer which makes it less portable, but it is so quiet I can't even hear that is switched on even when it is writing or reading. I would highly recommend this product or even one of the bigger sized ones, though I couldn't afford the 1TB mybook.
Remember 500GB is marketing, actual...

Advantages: Size, speed and style Disadvantages: Display is quite small - but it has to be!
...Sony's Vaio range just gets better and better! The PCG-Z600RE is small, lightweight, powerful and very, very stylish. In fact, its just about everything you could want from a notebook in the year 2000.
Unlike its older brother, the N505X which lacks true processing power, this computer really packs a punch. The PIII 500 chip coupled with a very acceptable 128MB RAM and a 12 GB hard disk gives a startling performance.
The PCG-Z600RE is packed with other features too, such as a Sony Memory Stick slot and an i.LINK interface for hooking up peripherales such as a digital camera.
But perhaps the best thing is that this computer only weighs 1.7kg - a great deal less than some of the competition.
The future is here - and its the Sony PCG-Z600RE....

I found a model on Simply Computers for £1,400 I think that you could spend this money better buying a Toshiba 3.06 GHz satelite, which i belive to be the best laptops at the moment, with prices starting from £500 - £1200. Sony have let themselves down here....

I have the 250 and 750GB versions and since this is exactly the same i'll review it. For £85 it's a hoot.
