As well as using Verbatim CDR disks, which I reviewed recently, I've also been using Sony. Th specific product is 10CDQ8ON, which is a box of 10 700Mb, 48x CDR disks.
As usual, they come in a cardboard box, and each one has a full sized CD-jewel case to protect the CDR inside. Each case is shrink-wrapped in plastic, to prevent scratching of the case, and dust from getting into the product. As with most shrink wrapped products, a quick entry system is included, which generally allows you to get into the contents quickly enough.
The cases are good quality clear plastic, including the inlay. The front cover of each disk is a green colour, with the Sony logo, and CD-r in large letters, as well as siez 700Mb / 80Min. The reverse of this is a white are to write the title of the disk, date etc. The front also has a small circular cut-out which allows you to see if the disk is inside the case or not - meaning you don't even have to open it to find out!
The reverse of the packaging is in a black design, including the spine - this is annoying as you cannot write on the spine unless you turn it inside out and write in white pen. This isn't too much of a problem, as I know usually print my own covers anyway - but for those who don't, 10 CDR's with the same spine are difficult to tell apart on a shelf!
The disks themselves are a shiny silver creamy colour on the top, with minimal writing, allowing plenty of space to write onto the disk with a suitable CDR pen (do not use hard tipped pens). You should also choose a waterproof pen, which will not rub off or smudge. A label can be stuck on, and the logo will not show through, but you cannot print directly onto the disk surface - they are not inkjet printable.
So the disks are 48x compatible, meaning that you can use them in amongst the fastest writers around. They will also work fine in writers which go only 1x, or anything in between. I use mine in a Samsung 48x CDR/RW, and they will write at 48x - a full 700Mb disk in around 3-4 minutes.
The problem with CDR's is that some seem to work better with certain drives than others, and only trial and error will provide these results. I'm far from happy with the reliability of writing onto these Sony disks, both with my previous old slow Medion CD-Writer and my current Samsumg CD-Writer. I've got far too many coasters lying around for my liking. I am not expecting perfection, I expect 1% to fail, but anything more than this and I'll look elsewhere. I'm not suggesting for one moment that Sony disks are poor quality, because I'm sure they're not. They do however not like my CD-Writers, and I have more problem free writing with other brands.
There are no mention of Warranty details on the disks on the product packaging, however the customer care addresses are provided.
Prices for a pack of 10 are around the £4 mark, available widely for instance www.dabs.com
