To my mind Sony is the safest when you are considering sound systems and there is no doubt that these guys does pioneering jobs as far as audio systems are concerned. I have always been against having a sound system fixed in my car because it tends to make me too cozy and vulnerable to possible mishaps. But ultimately I was able to convince myself that okay some times, if not always, you do require a music player on your loco specially when on long drives. I felt that loneliness might lead to even greater mishaps, since in this complicated world you tend to become a bit reflective on things on which one does not generally reflect on.

I believe that music is something that can always put you on the right frame of mind, lot of people will raise their eyebrows, but I can’t help but say music does help me concentrate even better.

I had lots of products on my mind for the car stereo and there were, of course, lots of healthy suggestions. Number of my friends gave their vote for Clarion products but all suggested and done I decided to keep my faith on Sony and decided to go for Sony CDX-GT620U. First thing that is very impressive about this mp3 player is its sleek and gorgeous looks. Impressed I dug into its features and here it is for you:

>·Detachable faceplate
·>DRIVE-S gives extended durability of the CD drive
·>52 W x4 S-MOSFET amplifier
·>CD/CD-RW/mp3/WMA/ATRAC (from USB only)/AAC playback
·>USB input for easy playback of digital music
·>3 Segment LCD display for clear and readable playback information
·>Blue key illumination
·>Front AUX-INPUT compatibility
·>QuickBrowzer optionality.
>Wireless Remote control

Although someone suggested that it will be compatible with my iPod but in practice it isn’t which is a definite drawback. But most impressive was its high and low frequency balance giving a great equalization in the bass-treble level. The 52 Wx 4 S MOSFET amp gives you a mind blowing audio out put level which very soothing and gives you the real feel of the track being played. In fact the EQ 3 equalizer gives lots of options for adjustments by experimenting with frequency levels of bass, treble and mid range.

It has got a DSO2 feature (with which I am still experimenting) allowing you to up to three different setting to raise the sound stage notches higher. Believe me, it works. Also option exists for adding additional external amplifiers and subwoofers because the software interface is great which gives near total control on the audio quality.

The mp3 tracks can be arranged on a CD or a USB flash drive. The statistics is good also, 350 tracks (depending on the size of the individual mp3 file) on CD and up to 900 tracks on a 2 GB USB pencil. The QickBrowzer supports fabulous navigation, jump to any favorite audio file in a whiz. Play your folder randomly or one whole, the choice is yours. My only apprehension is that the spinning rotary volume control won’t get noisy as it wears with time.

It has also got the facility of an wireless easy to use remote control, so if you feel things are really getting hot on the bend, you can ask any body anywhere inside the loco to take of the music that is being played while you can concentare on the task at hand and still enjoy the music.

Oops no bluetooth support, drawback no.2. But at around £130, it’s reasonably good shopping. It definitely stands out with its excellent sound quality. Oh yes, a word about blue illumination key it really sets of the gaudy gun-metal gray finish. Please don’t be worried about glares it’s perfectly alright. But still…that iPod compatibility..yes..not there..

It’s easily and widely available, no problems there.

Please Note: Use small file names, the LCD display scrolls but sometimes may be annoying the whole name does not show if it's to big you need to scroll.
