This head unit has given me nothing but problems since i purchased it.Where should i start right well at the moment it is deciding on what cd's it wants to play.Certain cds are put in and spat back out straight away for no reason,im not just talking about copied cd's,even purchased ones.It just ejects them for no reason so i try a different cd and ohh look it likes this one so it decides to play it,then i try to put the original cd in that i wanted on in the 1st place and it spits it out again.
It also seems to decide at what level i should listen to my music at.Sometimes i am allowed to change the volume other times im not.The sometimes it decides to turn the volume up to the max on its own accord, deafening me in the process. Then when i try to turn it down it does not let me , nor will it let me skip track or even turn it off.The buttons just don't respond. It also decides when it wants to display information.Sometimes the display will work sometimes it wont, it depends what mood it is in.
The head-unit has been replace 3 times and i still have the same problems,in the end i gave up getting it replaced, the head-unit has now been discontinuedRight so that is my list of problems that i am having with it.So are there any good points, well when it works properly it is a great little stereo,it is easy to use and navigate. It is pretty powerful as well and the eq functions on it are pretty good. You get a decent amount of settings to choose from as well as being able to customise it to your own desired tastes.
It has all the standard functions you would expect mp3 playback, am/fm radio,Traffic reports (which i have never used). It has a front loading slot load cd mechanism where the slot is covered by a slide bit of plastic, which when i first purchased i thought was pretty stylish as you can not see the cd slot. Now i don't like it and it feels cheap plus the plastic thing has broken so now instead of it covering the cd slot it covers the display pretty handy! The head unit was pretty easy to install and has a detachable face. There is no input for a cd changer although there is a direct line to a sub-woofer,which is pretty useless to be honest as the head-unit is not powerful enough to power one.
It seems to get pretty hot pretty quickly as well which may explain a lot of the problems i am having with it.I really would not recommend that anyone buys this,as i am aware it has now been discontinued but please do not purchase it from ebay etc as you will be wasting your money. It was clearly a rushed process designing and testing this machine,as i believe it was one of Sony's 1st mp3 playback head-units so they clearly rushed it to get it out into the market.
