I bought this mp3/cd player on the strength of the looks and battery life, as well as the mp3 option, without doing my usual of resorting to online reviews, mainly because I found there was a great lack of these for this product...

Now, I think there may be a little confusion about the Sony Atrac format, which this player so blatently advertises and favours. Claiming to fit 30 albums on one cdr. To clear this up, the atrac system is a compression method very similar to mp3, however, to fit the stated 30 albums, the compression is such that the sound quality is noticably reduced. and also the software provided for conversion takes an age! up to 5 hours from compression to burning.
I bought this player mainly for its ability to play mp3's, not using the conventional method of storing music to a small built in 'hard drive' this cd player plays mp3's direct from a cd, meaning you can fit around 10 albums on one cd at a great rate of 192 kbps, meaning virtually no sound quality loss, which is great!
The sound quality on ths cd player is good, on first listen I thought it was fairly average and tinny, but with the addition of a bass button this is improved greatly, probably one of the best bass sounds i have heard on a portable device, the headphone socket, though enabling the connection of a remote style plug, also easily accepts the general headphone connection plug.
I would definitely recommend this cd/mp3 player to anyone thinking about buying one.

...me though was this obession Sony seem to have with the 'beep' when you skip songs or pause. I still haven't found a way to turn this off and this may sound petit but after a while becomes a real pain and super annoying.
In conclusion, i wasn't too impressed with my D-NE711. It looks really nice, has some nice features and great technology but really, whats the point buying any player if the sound it outputs is sub-standard? It let me down and i ... ...a hurry.

Advantages: Plays MP3 and normal CD and CD/RW Disadvantages: Kind of Thick
This CD Walkman is amazing, i've had one for 2 years now, and i only had to change batteries 3 times. This baby comes with me to univ everyday!
Its great, just a little thick though. (And there's no radio. Main reason i bought it was because of its cheap price and the fact that it also plays MP3's. The TV ad was also funny!!!
All in all an EXCELLENT item. Very easy to use, even my mom can make this thing function!! LOL

...of players. I noticed the SONY D-ne711.The first shop I went in selled it for 199£.. I didn't even bother giving it a second look once I saw the price tag. I went to another shop, but this time, in my city, the D-NE711 was retailed at 139$. I tried it, it had all the features I expected. Bass-boost, title display and a neat look. I bought it. LOOKS Full circle silver design (about an inch thick), partially see-through lid. The middle part is aluminum. ... ...The display viewer is rectangle and big enough. 3 line LCD display. It has 5 push-buttons and 2 round ones (1 multi-fonctions button and a jog dial). The headphones jack is adaptable for a remote (but not included in the package). The weight is distributed evenly. Not too light nor heavy. The shape and style is very fashionable, maybe a bit too much for guys.. but good enough for gals. It looks exactly like the DNE710, I wonder what the difference ...

When i seen this player in the shop the first impression i got was Round, saucer like and easy to hold. I found it had Good sound especially with good head phones. The battery life is very strong compared to other players i have come accross. Line out for connecting to speakers. mp3 or atrac playback includes the folder system, easier to navigate through 100-200 songs on each cd. Can group songs in folders when you burn them so you dont have to hit track advance 150 times if you want to hear the 150th song. Good for old format old time radio plays. It plays the low grade mp3 kbs/s and frequences as well of course the standard new music high quality format. ...

But in the technological age we live this product won't be able to turn many heads.
The sony D-NE511/S comes with power compression software which allows you to put up to 30 CD's onto one CD and play it through your D-NE511/S. The missing word in that sentence is ONLY...these compressed CD's can only be played through sony walkmans with ATRAC recording technology which makes it hard if you want to share your newly created mixes with friends.
