Advantages: Okay if it works Disadvantages: Instructions are a joke.
...Decided to buy a rewritable Cd kit. Went to PCWorld and asked their advice. Ended up buying a Sony Ready to go CRX140E-RP. Opened it to get instructions and found a booklet, inside instructions for every country and England. There were just 4 pages to tell you how to install this internal CDWriter. It told us how to get in the hard drive but not where the leads went to on the motherboard. So I got annoyed and asked a friend who knew where the one lead went but not the audio lead so we decided to leave that off until we asked the advice of PC World. They still have not got back to us. The CDWriter is half installed and I just want to say if you want to buy a CDWriter just dont go for a SONY!...

Advantages: Good Speed For CDR Writing Disadvantages: Cost
...I have had no problems with my CRX-140E which was a bare drive ie no instructions, audio lead or IDE cable. I have upgraded the firmware to the latest version 1.0p without any problem.
I mainly use it for CDR copies of both audio and data and have never had a coffee mat yet!, saying that I have used the CDRW format for backup of some file that change on a weekly basis again very reliable.
It works at 32 x Read, 8 x CDR writing, 4 x CDRW writing which is fairly high spec for CDR writing. I have always found Sony to be a good reliable make and would recommend this model to you if require reliability, okay its not the cheapest drive on the market.
I have been using Ahead's Nero Burning ROM 5 as the software which I have also reviewed on here....
