Are we just paying for the Sony Name?????
Cost - around £50
We have a couple of sony vaio laptops at my place of work so have and have the need to borrow these for my job on a regular basis. Whats this got to do with the case you may ask? Well the amount of misuse these pieces of equipment get shows just how important a good quality case is for your laptop.
The case itself is made from a washable, durable nylon fabric. It has some water resistance in wet weather but would not stand up to prolonged heavy downpours.
It has 3 sections on the inside which is accessed by a zip that opens over 3 full sides of the case. I have found a lot of laptop bags only open halfway down each side sometimes making it difficult to remove the laptop or any other documents you may have in there. The laptop sits in the middle section quite snuggly and there is plenty of room to have a pad of paper, documents or disks on either side. There is also a velcro strap which goes over the top of the laptop for added stability. The side pocket has a velcro opening with an additional zip at the top. The main opening is desinged for storing your power supply, mouse, spare battery and any other peripherals you may carry. There are designated compartments for both the mouse and battery. The external zip is really only good for storing a few disk and can make the bag really quite awkward if over filled.
The bag itself is lightweight, but if you want to try and hide the fact you are carrying an expensive laptop around with you then the Vaio logo may be a put off and could be a target for thieves.
The bag also comes with a shoulder strap but must admit I have never used this so can not really comment on how easy or usefull it is. The main handles on the bag are made from a hard plastic and although are moulded to fit together do not have a very comfortable feel if you need to carry the item a long way. Softer feeling handles would be of great benefit.
This brings me back to my original question, are we paying for the sony name??? Well it is a good quality case that has stood the test of time in an array of situations at work, but there are plenty of other brands out there today which can compete with this case for half the cost. If it were my own money, think i would buy something a little cheaper.
