To be honest I am basically a Sony sound system fanatic simply because I am a person to whom music means a lot, but it is also true I have an inherent weakness for the sony brand name itself. Although I am not a professional photographer but photography does interest me a lot and on top of that there are friends who are professionals in this field. I came across Sony Cybershot DSC-S950 through one of my friends, what attracted me was its silvery looks (not that it is available in silver only, pink and black variations are also available) and since it was there with him I borrowed it in order to try it out for a while. The slick looks impressed me a lot. Over all the quality seemed to me to be quite okay. I got excellent results shooting out doors with rapid shutter speed in IS ISO100 mode, in fact the 4x zoom did not hinder the picture quality and the reproduction of details, I would say, was exceptionally good but I ran into serious problems while using the camera for out door photography using it at an ISO setting above 100, forget about ISO 3200, the photo quality detoriates very appreciable, in fact the results are really very poor. Real problem starts when you are clicking indoors, the pictures are very noise (excessive grains) in low light and the video zoom becomes annoying along with very poor focus and it takes ages to recover for the second picture. Another disturbing feature of this camera is the batteries, you have to remove and charge them, although, agreed, a plug in is available for a price but why not it is a single unit?. I thought Sony uses Carl-Zeiss lenses exclusively but not this one. Isn’t it strange for Sony ? Are they keeping an eye on the price?
Advantages: Great zoom, and clear pictures. Disadvantages: Quite highly priced, and not likely to be returned to you if you loose it.
The Sony Cyber shot camera is situated at the higher end of the compact cameras market with prices ranging from £120 upwards. It may be fairly expensive, but it is well worth it. I bought this camera for my birthday one year, and it lasted me at least two years, until I recently lost it. I had one problem with it during those two years, when the lens failed to open, but I sent it to Sony and they were happy to repair it. Since then it was problem ... ...any greatness.
The sony cyber-shot is a great first hand camera, with easy to use features and simple, clear instructions. The buttons are clearly marked with what they are for, and overall this is a great camera, of which I was gutted to loose, and would love to have again. ...

Advantages: Very easy to use Disadvantages: Not a reflex, but...
This camera, Sony CyberShot DSC-S950, is a digital compact avalaible in various colours and first at all, it is a easy to use camera: I mean, just point and shot.
THe sensor is 10,1 Megapixel of effective resolution, and the objective is carl zeiss technology, a brand may ensure you top quality in lenses: the objective is Vario Tessar, with a 33-132 mm focus format into 35 mm., plus an optical zoom 4x, and a digital zoom 8x. The lcd display is actually ... ...very eccelnt one.
All this made this camera very professional also for the beginner.
The sensibility is equal to 3200 iso and you dispose of image editing directly on the camera, plus a few scene modalities among you may choose the more similar to your own photographic experience. ...

Advantages: Reliable, high quality pictures, easy to use. Disadvantages: Lower quality in low light
Having used this camera extensively whilst travelling, overall I am very satisfied with it. In terms of size, it is good - it feels solid and durable whilst still being easy to carry around and not too ostentatious. The quality of pictures taken on this camera is high; however, I have struggled to find the correct setting in low light and pictures taken at dawn or in the evening have often come out poor quality or grainy. Similarly, I have found ... ...- however, it is very simple to manually choose which flash setting to use so this has not been a problem.
I think the camera's main strength is its reliability. I have had no problems whatsoever with it and would therefore recommend it to people who are not serious photographers but would like a reliable, good quality camera to use for a variety of different occasions - it's perfect to take on a night out, as well. ...

Advantages: numerous features, quality and price. Disadvantages: sensitivity.
Sony Cybershot is certainly a flashy camera, with a mechanical design and cool features. Though its features as same as there were in the previous cameras, its quality has improved (10 mega pixels) which is bound to give better results. Its compactness with innumerable features, complimented with a cheap price is what we need. Compared to sleek Cybershots, it is a bit tough which is an edge to its safety. The best part is though we are not professionals, ... ...some of the errors. The only bad thing about Sony is that the software and the camera itself is very sensitive. Once they get a flaw or something is wrong, you seldom see it back giving the original performance.I would certainly enjoy using it as long its working and fun! ...

Manufacturer's product description
The Sony Cybershot S950 will be limited to a maximum ISO sensitivity of 3,200 equivalent, and will not offer true mechanical image stabilization, instead opting only for Digital Image Stabilization which functions by raising the camera's sensitivity (and along with it, the noise levels) so as to achieve a higher shutter speed and reduce motion blurring. The Sony S950 will also include face detection capable of identifying eight faces simultaneously, and will take into account the locations of detected faces when calculating autoexposure and autofocus variables.
