The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H7/B digital camera by Sony is one of many in the CYBERSHOT range. If you click on the PRODUCT INFORMATION on this website, you will notice that it says that this very camera has 2x digital zoom. That 2x digital zoom is one of the main features. The more advanced features give you a 15x optical zoom, which basically means that it will zoom into anything without a significant amount of quality degradation. There is also a 25x HD (High-Definition) digital zoom with which the center portion of a captured photo can be magnified so as you can see the photo in greater detail. There is a reason why this CYBERSHOT camera has the word COMPACT before its name. The reason is simply because it is very light, weighing just 375g. Another reason is because it is quite small, with a width of 11 cm, a depth (thickness) of 8.6 cm and a height of 8.3 cm. Taking all of this into account, you can really see why it is called compact.
The on-board 8.1 megapixel camera actually gives you a maximum resolution of 8.3 megapixels (8,300,000 pixels). The great number of pixels means that you get more detail and definition for editing, cropping, and making large digital prints. The optical sensor type is Super HAD CCD, this is basically a component within the camera which allows a higher level of light to pass through to the pixels, thus increasing the sensitivity and reducing noise. Noise is basically the clash of pixels during the process of taking
a photograph. The clash of pixels will cause a significant level of photo quality degradation. This is because when the pixels clash they create distortions in parts of the image, which are usually white dots and can be seen on photos taken by digital cameras which do not have the Super HAD CCD sensor. The sensor reduces the amount of noise and does not completely diminish them. Due to the high quality of the photos taken by this particular camera, you will have an option of viewing your entire photo album in High-Definition. So if you have a HD compatible television screen you will have no problem in viewing all your photos in a high level of picture quality. You will have in the box a cable which will allow you to connect your digital camera to an external HD compatible device, namely a television in order to view photographs in HD.
Blurry faces on a photograph will no longer be a problem, as face-detection technology is fully utilized in this camera. This technology will automatically control focus, exposure, color and flash to reveal faces in shadow as well as making skin tones look more natural and also eliminating harsh facial glare. With all this put into practice you get a much clearer photo with facial expressions clearly defined, thus increasing the overall quality of the photograph and producing photos that will most definitely be memorable. There are also many shooting modes, these are: landscape, portrait mode, twilight portrait, fireworks, sports mode, twilight mode, beach, snow, high sensitivity and advanced sports. The two modes which have the greatest effect on photos are the high sensitivity mode and the advanced sports mode. The High Sensitivity mode uses image stabilization technology to reduce blur, it also lets you capture photos effectively in low light conditions without the use of flash. The Advanced Sports mode allows you to capture fast moving objects in 8.1 megapixels of detail. Being a Cybershot camera there had to be a feature which allowed you to capture fast moving things, and there is. The shutter speed is 1/4000, this basically means that photos can be captured at a speed of 4000th's of a second, which is considerably quick as anything under 1 second is amazing.
The long distance flash lets you capture photos from further away, this can be an advantage for people who enjoy traveling in the wilderness and want to take photos of natural beauty such as caves and other dark areas. Another handy feature is the D-Range Optimization which saves image data in bright highlights, thus revealing more detail in shadows or badly lit areas. The In-camera retouching lets you add creative effects to photos after you shoot, these effects include a soft edge filter, which as the name suggests softens backgrounds. Other included effects include a 'dazzling' effect as well as a fish eye lens effect. Another In-Camera feature is the red-eye reduction capability, which removes red-eyes in captures photos. The screen size is 2.5" just enough to view the high quality of your photos. There is also a built-in electronic view finder, this can be used like a traditional camera where you view an object through the camera with your own eyes rather than looking at the LCD screen. This can be used as an option of saving battery life on the camera as the electronic view finder can be used with the LCD screen off. Although over usage of the electronic view finder can cause dizziness and also may cause your eyes to hurt. There is no long-term danger such as blindness, but you have to take caution in using the electronic view finder too much.
You will find that there is a wheel dial at the back of the camera. This will allow you to quickly change camera settings in manual modes (shutter speed priority, aperture priority, manual exposure) and also control ISO sensitivity, focus area, and exposure value. The ISO sensitivity is basically how sensitive the cameras viewfinder is to light. The higher the ISO sensitivity the less light is needed in order for optimum picture exposure. This can be changed manually depending on the lighting conditions of the area or people you want to capture. For bright conditions a low ISO sensitivity would be ideal and for darker conditions a higher ISO sensitivity. There is 31 MB of internal memory, which is not a lot considering the quality and size of the photos. If you take photographs in the highest possible resolution you will be able to hold a maximum of 10 photographs as each photograph will be between 3 - 3.5 MB in size. However you have an option of expanding memory with the memory card slot. This camera supports Memory Stick Duo and Memory Stick PRO Duo cards. These go from a capacity of 128 MB - 8 GB, with the mid-range ones costing £18. By mid range I mean the 2GB cards and the 4GB cards. The 2GB ones costing on average £18 and the 4GB ones £34 on average. www.memorybits.co.uk provide great deals on all sorts of memory cards.
The integrated video camera records in the standard MPEG format. There are 3 recording options, you can record in 30 fps (frames per second) in a 640 x 480 video resolution as well as 16 fps in the same resolution and 8.3 fps in a 320 x 240 resolution. The video recording options are not as impressive as the digital camera options, obviously because it is a digital camera first and foremost. And finally one of the most important things about any electronic is its battery life. This particular camera will give you enough battery life to capture up to 250 images. All in all, the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H7/B camera is a great compact device, which will give you HD photos at the touch of a button. The diverse range of features will make it popular with the real camera enthusiasts as well as regular camera using people. Also it is not very pricey and can be bought for under £200. However, the small memory capacity will mean that you have to buy a separate memory card in order to fulfill your camera needs.
