Advantages: sexy, well built, good performance, great size Disadvantages: overcompresses jpegs - larger images are less sharp; barrel distortion

Ah, my first digital camera. Sleak, good looking - but enough about me... Seriously though, it is ideally small, looks and feels great and it takes photos too! Build quality is good with a metal finish.
It has 4 megapixels which is more than adequate for most. For 6x4” and 7x5” photos this is ideal. It is capable of A4 but this camera struggles with this. Something which I will explain later. Its 3 x zoom (32-96mm) is standard but slightly wider than most. This means you can fit more into the frame. It does, however, suffer from barrel distortion (a goldfish bowl effect on the edge of the photo). Its 1.5" screen is small but good quality. However, if your eye sight isn’t brilliant then you may find this a bit too small. My eye sight is good and i was able to use this even in bright sunlight. The response is good, but it doesn't perform quite so well in low light, especially without the flash. This is because it has an ISO range of 100-400. My newer camera’s range is 80-1600. This makes it more sensitive to light than the L1 and thus perform better in poor light. At 400 ISO there is a fair bit of noise. Something that you shouldn’t see until you get to 800ISO.
Its biggest problem is it overcompresses the photos. For your average snap shot this is not a problem. But if you want to enlarge your photos - say to A4 - it's more of a problem. The photos look pixelated - less sharp. 4 megapixels is capable of good quality A4 sized photos but this camera doesn't quite provide that quality. However, at your average sizes the photo quality is very good.
It has a good range of features for most. You don’t get any manual functions like aperture of shutter priorities but you wouldn’t expect it in a camera like this. It has a range of scene modes: landscape, portrait, candle, beach and snow. These seem to work well. It doesn’t, however, have a macro function so you won’t get close up shots with this camera. This was slightly disappointing. One of its best features is its movie mode. It has two quality settings – normal and high. With a standard Memory stick Duo you only have the normal option. If you buy a Pro Duo card you get both options. I’d definitely recommend a pro duo as the quality difference is worth it. It doesn’t change the quality of still photos. Despite some of the issues above the photos look good. It exposes well giving few problems. It does give a slightly cool (blue) tint to the photo but this is easily overcome in an editing programme. The camera’s metering is very good. It’s just as good, if not better in some cases, than my newer Fuji F10. My other Sony, an R1, also has very good metering. Something Sony seem to have got right.

Advantages: Small form, 3x OPTICAL zoom (hard to find on small cams), great quality pics, nice design. Disadvantages: No zoom on video
...is impressive to see what Sony has been able to do and has improved on in the last few years. Movie Quality - No matter really how fast you pan from side to side, or up and down, it doesn't drop frames. The quality is awesome. I can only assume it has to do something with the MPEG VX technology (whatever that is...). It's great for on the fly video. The sound is also of great quality. The only downfall is the inability to zoom when recording.
Menu/Ease ... ...camera to replace my tiny Sony U30, which is only 2 mega pixels and has no zoom, I was extremely happy with my choice. The camera comes with a charger included so you arent having to constantly purchase new batteries. I found the size of the camera ideal, it fitted in my pocket perfectly. The u30 to me seemed a little lightweight and flimsy whereas this camera is slightly heavier and has a sturdier feel to it. The only downfalls I would say with ...

Advantages: Fantastic picture quality, fast response, great battery life, durable. Disadvantages: No viewfinder
This camera is fantastic! Although, now around three years old- from when I bought my own- it still seems to have a much superior quality on the cheaper, weaker cameras. It's strength is amazing. Many times has it been dropped down the stairs- accidentally of course- or knocked into things. Not a dent or a scratch.
The picture quality is fantastic, and the zoom and flash are equally as useful. The memory card it uses- SD- are very reasonably priced ... ...The battery life is also brilliant, and it even tells you how long the remaining battery will last on each mode- viewer, camera and video mode. Its battery is charged in camera.
The only thing people might have against this smart, strong, speedy camera is its lack of viewfinder. This is not a problem for me- I don't like viewfinders anyway- but some people may find it a problem. But personally I feel the screen view is perfect and clear to use!

Advantages: Sony. Robust, Compact, Reasonable price Disadvantages: Small LCD screen
...bought this camera from a sony store mainly for ease and a reasonable price. This camera itself feels very sturdy and robust with an aluminium case and what feels like an aluminium shutter which slides over the lens as you turn on and off.
I feel the features it offers in manual mode are more than you will ever need if you ever wish to overide the auto setting which are very good themselves anyway. One feature I find very useful is the joystick ... ...with lots of buttons. It also has a very good, and instant, review mode so that you can view the last picture taken with minimal hassle. The optical zoom is 3x which i find is enough, it has digital zoom but i suggest not to use it as it distorts the image.
The shutter reaction time is very good especially when the flash it turned off, the flash has a red eye reduction setting which is very useful in digital photography. The movie function is average ...

Advantages: Stylish, Compact, Good Lense Disadvantages: Picture quality of larger prints
...it, thanks :)
The Sony Cyber Shot DSC-L1 is 4.1-mega-pixel which in my opinion is ideal, great quality prints and means you can fit a lot more on a card than say a 6 mega-pixel. It measures about 10 cm by 4.5 cm by 2.5cm and fits in its tiny its 3x optical lens, which is very small for a camera of this quality. It fits into your pocket very easily. It also has an Info Lithium battery, which means it can last a lot longer than some other camera's, ... ...I noticed about it is the speed between shots and the start up time. It is very fast and allows you to get a picture in straight away when you need to.
The LCD is also very high quality and can be seen in all lights. It measures 1.5 inches, which is respectable for a camera this small.
The camera comes in a nice set of stylish colours, dark red, black, blur or sliver. I chose the blue and I really like the look of it.
The camera's video capture ...

Advantages: very easy to use, superb quality Disadvantages: none that i have found
I purchased this camera just over a month ago and now feel as though I can give a satisfactory review. It is compact, like many other brands advertised, but for the price the quality is more noticable. The camera has a solid feel unlike the cheaper plasticy models, which feel as though you could break it in two minuits if your to rough. It is a decent weight and more to the point it takes superb photoes and adaquate movie pictures at just the touch ...

Manufacturer's product description
Measuring 3 ¾" x 1 ¾" x 1", the L1 model is powered by Sony's Real Imaging Processor circuitry, delivering outstanding shot-to-shot speed, stamina and quick start-up time for catching the action as soon as it happens. For the first time in the ultra-compact class of digital cameras, the Cyber-shot L1 model delivers a 1.5-inch transflective LCD, making it easier to see what's on the LCD even in bright sunlight. It also has a new Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar 3X optical zoom lens, setting the stage for picture quality typically delivered by larger, more expensive digital cameras.Like all Cyber-shot cameras, the DSC-L1 model has speedy auto-focus and auto-exposure options to snap the best picture the first time. You can quickly select the best setting based on the shooting conditions by choosing from one of seven preset modes, including twilight, snow, beach and fireworks.Four newly developed technologies - including a linear focus drive and a compact high-resolution optical system - combine to produce the ultra-small lens. This lets you zoom in for crisp images of a flower or zoom out for a far-away shot of the game-winning goal, all the while staying in sharp focus. When used with Memory Stick PRO Duo media, the L1 camera's high-quality MPEG Movie VX Fine mode captures and plays back high-resolution moving images with 640x480 pixel resolution at 30 frames per second, up to the capacity of the memory media card. The L1 camera provides approximately 240 shots per charge of the InfoLithium battery, with a to-the-minute, on-screen display of remaining battery life.
good value, good mode selection, good quality, well built, canon quality, good battery life, good resolution and quality, good manual controls, good LCD
clumpy, clunky design and controls, too big to be a true compact, interface pauses, zoom irritating, not worth the upgrade from G3 (*)
