I bought the Sony DSC-P10 digital camera after plenty of research, which is a minefield! So many to choose from. Went for this one, because of the quality, 5 Megapixels, and from past experience Sony seem to be a reliable brand.

I was a bit disappointed with the fact that it didn't have a case included, (and my mum has since bought one that did!) and that the memory stick included was only 32Mb, but nevertheless I am really pleased with it's performance.

Mpeg video is of good quality, and you have two image quality options to choose from. By shooting footage at 640 (VGA) mode, on a 32Mb memory stick you can capture 1min 27 seconds of good quality footage. Using the 160 (mail) mode, you can capture 22 mins and 43 seconds.

Photo quality is impressive, and you have five image quality options to choose from. By selecting the 5.0 Megapixel (best quality) option, again on a 32Mb memory stick you can take 12 pictures. Using the 4.5 [3:2] Megapixel option you can again take 12 pictures. Using the 3.1 Megapixel option you can take 20 pictures, the 1.2 Megapixel option 50 pictures, and VGA mode 196 pictures.

Installation is extremely easy. I found that using Windows XP Professional, when you connected the camera to the PC using the supplied USB cable, Windows recognised it instantly as a drive letter, and displayed a set of options asking what you wanted to do. One of this was 'view the folder' which, if selected will show you the pictures stored on your camera. You merely need to drag and drop them onto your PC's 'My PIctures' folder. I didn't personally have to install the drivers, even having had no digital cameras set up on my PC before, but I know others that have had to.

It's also very easy to use. The LCD viewfinder on the rear of the camera is of a good size (3cm x 2cm) and again good quality. You can actually make out whether a picture you have taken is any good, rather than some that display so badly it's difficult to tell, and at the end of the day, that's the best thing about a digital camera - being able to see the picture and delete it if it's not up to standard!

There is a wide range of features, flash options, date/time print options, and all are accessed via a dial on the top of the camera. Very easy to navigate and easy to use.

The rechargeable battery is still charging fully, and lasting for as long as it ever did, even though it has been charged so many times - this camera gets a lot of use. The battery lasts approx. 80 mins fully charged, which includes powering the LCD viewfinder. This option can be turned off in order to gain more battery time. It charges very quickly too, charger included, compared with others.

Overall I'm pleased with my purchase. More memory and a case would have been better for the £350 I paid for it at the time (approx. one year ago), but apart from that, a fabulous gadget! Highly recommended!!!

Sounds good but will stick to my (cheaper) Pentax one - being a stingey student and all! Lucie xxx
