For a couple of years now I have been using a Kodak DC215 digital camera. An excellent camera, but my daughter was spending a fortune in films and processing for her portfolio for college. I gave her my digital camera to alleviate the costs. To replace it I decided to go for a higher resolution, choosing the Sony DSC-P71, mainly on the 3.2 megapixel basis, and the price it was on offer in duty free at Schipol airport. Once I became familiar with everything and started using it, I became well impressed with the results. The quality of images at the hi res settings are superb, albeit memory hungry at these settings. i.e. on the 16mB memory stick that was supplied with the camera I could only fit 10 images. If your lower the resolution or set to standard image then you can double that number. The results are still good at the lower resolutions, ideal for snapshot type photographs. One feature which I did not think would be much use to me was being able to produce movie clips, but whilst on site for my company there was a situation developed which no-one would have beleived if I told them. I used the movie function to witness this and mailed it back to my office. The manual is very well produced, for people with or without technical expertise, it provides the right amount of info for all the functionality of the camera without too much bullshit. Another thing that also impressed me that was when I installed the software provided onto my Win XP based laptop, it all worked first time without having to mess around getting extra drivers etc. Too many technical and usefull features her to mention, I recommend at least to have a look at one in depth if interested. The supplied rechargeable batteries are excellent in service, using the camera with all LCD functions, flash etc. I was still able to go quite a while between charges. Another advantage with this camera is that you can use 2 x AA batteries if you cannot get your normal batteries charged, for example out on long field trips. Additional memory is available, it uses the Sony memory stick. The price of this memory is the only down side I can comment about, as compared to compact flash, smart media it is OTT on price. Come on Sony, drop the price, you will sell a darn sight more.

Good, but try including a bit more detail, such as what it is like to use, etc. If you edit this, the tell me and I will be glad to re-rate. Mike.

Sounds like a good camera. I'd be interested to know how many pics you can store on the standard memory stick at lower resolutions?? V.

Sounds like a good camera. I've been looking for a while and SONY sound like they make good equipment. I'm looking at their new DSCP9 so might have to write a review about that as soon as i get it and have a play.
