Full review

I have had this camera for quite a few years now and it has never let me down apart from the battery running out but thats my fault, i should always remember to have spare batteries with me.

Upon choosing this camera i really did take my time over it i didnt want to spend a fortune but a didnt want a really cheap one either so i did i lot of comparing before i brought it.

When you get your camera it comes in a neat little box and within the box comes the camera itself a battery charger 2 AA nickel metal hydride batteries, A/V connection cable, a memory stick 16mb, a USB cable and a CD rom.

To start off charge your batteries up which will be done after about 6 hours then your ready to go.

I must admit even though it comes with a memory stick it doesnt hold that much so i went a brought a new one with more memory a sony memory stick with128mb and that is just ideal you can hold about 101 photos with that plenty of time to record.

To insert memory stick press the button on the side that says open and just push memory stick into the slot, to remove it push it down and it will then pop up, there is were you insert the batteries.

To turn the camera on press the power button on top of the camera and a green light will come on to say the power is on.
There is a small dial to the right of the power button here you can set the time and date which is in the set up control.

You can set up the still image size here aswell as red eye reduction.

You have the option of a basic still image shooting using auto mode, by placing the dial on the picture of a camera, aim the camera and press the central button down half way this will automatically focus the image once you are happy press the button down fully, then to check the photo you have just taken press the button with curled arrow on the back and the image will appear on the screen on the back of the camera, if you are not happy with it just press the trash bin symbol on the back and that will delete the image.

To use the zoom feature there are two buttons on the top at the back one with W and one with T one is for wide angle the other is for telephoto. It has a 3x optical zoom lens. This camera is good for both far away and close up shots.

There is a self timer option just set were you want to camera and then press the symbol of a timer and the picture will be taken in approx 10 secs.

The flash mode is easy to use again on the back there is a symbol of a flash, if you want it on just press it there are different options for the flash, you can have it on all the time or auto and the camera will decide if the flash is needed or not

You also have different setting on the dial on the top here you can decide whether you want it on twilight mode this is used in darker conditions and the shutter speed will be slower to get a perfect picture.

Twilight Portrait Mode, this is used for taking pictures of people in darker light this gives you a perfect picture of the person but still getting the night appearance in the background.

Candle mode, this used especially at a party it captures a perfect picture again because the shutter speed is slower.

Landscape mode, this is ideal for images you are trying to capture far away.

Beach Mode, this is ideal for taken images eg on a beach or lakeside and it makes the image of the water very clear and define.

soft snap mode, this creates a very natural and warm picture especially if you are taking a close up photo of a person..

To return and check all the photos you have taken turn the dial to an image of a square with an arrow head in it you will then have an index screen to see all photos or you can see individual photos one at a time.

To view and transfer all your images to the computer insert the CD into your computer and load on your camera, then with the USB cable insert into the camera and your computer you can then copy images onto your computer.

To view your images on the tv use the A/V cable just connect one end to camera and the other to the TV and to skip through the photo again use the buttons on the back of the camera.

Shooting Movies:-
Video resolutions 640 x 480 (VGA) • 160 x 112
Just turn the dial to the single frame movie shoot symbol, press down the shoot button on top of the camera fully and this starts the capture you can get close up images here also and you can also use the self timer on the movie mode too. To stop the movie just press the button down fully again.

To view the movies is the same as viewing photos and so is deleting the movie, there is also an option for cutting movies too.

This camera is a 4.1 mega pixels and does produce very good quality pictures.
It has a 1.5 in LCD Screen and 3 X Optical Zoom 39 - 117 mm , 6 X Digital Zoom auto focus

I brought the camera brand new for £169.99 gosh i even still have the receipt on the 01/06/05.

You can pick up the cameras for about £60 which is very good value for money.
Memory sticks about £20.00 for a 128mb which does hold loads.

Great camera, all the features most people need.
Review of Sony Cyber-shot DSC-P73 by toptone78

Advantages: Lots of features, good quality pictures, video, it's Sony.
Disadvantages: You will have to buy a larger Memory Stick than the one it comes with.

I have had my Sony DSC for a couple of years now. Apart from when I dropped it once, it has not let me down. It's very easy to use and changing between modes is simple, you just have to turn the wheel on the top of the camera. There are many different modes, for example beach shot, scenic view shot, motion shot etc. These are very useful in the appropriate situation but most of the time the normal mode is fine for taking pictures. This camera can ...
...camera can take all the Sony memory sticks, including Memory Stick Pro, as well as some third party ones. The Sony Memory Sticks can be quite expensive though, my camera came with a 32MB card but you need about 512MB to realistically get a decent number of pictures taken, although if you change the camera setting to use a smaller resolution (say 1 mega pixel) then you can get hundreds of pictures on it. Most of the time I leave the quality setting ... Read review

Cheap Digtal camera likely all you need
Review of Sony Cyber-shot DSC-P73 by Bhaktin

Advantages: Cheap, well made; full featured semi-pro
Disadvantages: proprietray memory stick & related software

...Europe on your next holiday. Sony provide a 1 yr International warranty completely ignoring the British Imperialism's establishment inflated UK prices. A 4-megapixel camera gives you professional photo resolution up to A4 with a 3x optical zoom lens and 11x digital zoom. Sony's Cyber-shot DSC-P73 is no stripped-down "entry-level" camera, it sports features like a 5-point auto focus system that actually works properly, full manual exposure control, ...
...only Canon I would suggest, Sony includes a set of 2100 mAh rechargeable NiMH batteries that can capture up to 410 pictures. FAB. The Canon are better because with industry standard compact flash you get much better downloading software and very much cheaper memory eg 256k at £16 rather than 2x128MB Sony at £45. Downloading photos is the achilles' heel. Clearly much less work has gone into the software for memory sticks than compact flash. To download ... Read review

Good at most things Master of none.
Review of Sony Cyber-shot DSC-P73 by praiseindeed

Advantages: Excellent all round camera for the beginner. Easy to use and a good price for a Sony product.
Disadvantages: Memory stick is accessed through the battery compartment. Shutter lag is long. Video is very low quality.

I have owned a DSC-73 for about 8 months, having seen it advertised as a bundle with batteries for a very good price on a popular internet site. I have found that the camera is very good at taking still photo's and using PC manipulation software ie. cropping or zooming will not generally ruin the quality. I particularly wanted a reliable camera and having read on the net that some other makes (not Sony) have mechanical shutter failure problems ...
...The fact is I have not had any cause for concern, enjoying a trouble free time. The DSC-73 does have some down sides to its use. Shutter lag, which is non existent in 35m cameras gets in the way a little, which is ok when you are taking still shots. Action shots are so much harder to get right, relying heavily on the use of the lcd screen to preview snaps. The video function is best described as a fun facilty rather than a serious tool. Playback ... Read review

Great camera, great features, great price!
Review of Sony Cyber-shot DSC-P73 by robertstephens1

Advantages: Great picture quality, easy to use, option to record videos
Disadvantages: Only comes with a 16MB memory stick

I have owned this camera for just over a year now and I have found it to be very useful (especially once I had upgraded my memory stick to 512MB). I have taken over 1000 photos so far of everything from family get-togethers to holiday scenes. The pictures are great quality, particularly when set to 4 mega-pixels, however the lower settings are perfectly acceptable for everyday use. It also has the option to record video. Although not great quality ...
...great feature to have as there are some moments in life that cannot be captured in just one photo. With a 512MB memory card on the standard quality setting you can record up to 11 minutes, and on the lowest quality setting you can record around 3 hours worth! My only problem is that the batteries run down quite quickly (although I think that this is due to the fact that I take so many videos) and I would recommend that you invest in a spare pair ... A good camera at a good price!
Review of Sony Cyber-shot DSC-P73 by Berserker13

Advantages: Sony!
Disadvantages: None!

...it's really easy to use! Sony made the little perfect cam in order to take good picture! ( so that I can take good picture ! LOL ) The picture quality is really good and the cam offerts some utilities in order to arrange a picture. There is 5 level for the picture VGA, 1, 3, 3:2 and 4 mega/pix. The zoom goes to 6 to 18 mm ( Sony Lens/optical 3x ). Most probably perfect for someone that want to take a few good picture. If you need more zoom, there ...
...The memory stick of sony is fast. What I mean by fast? There is no need to wait more that 2 sec. if you want to see an old picture stored on the stick. The best thing to buy with this cam, is propably the memory stick pro 256 or more... ( This will be an another review... ) One thing that I HATE... it's the panel that protected the DC connector, USB connector and the connector for the TV... Is more than fragile. Each time that I need to open this, ... Read review
