Truly like to be all you need because there is no fallback on features or quality. This is simply, an old model. Maybe £299 in the UK and £150 if purchased in Europe on your next holiday. Sony provide a 1 yr International warranty completely ignoring the British Imperialism's establishment inflated UK prices.
A 4-megapixel camera gives you professional photo resolution up to A4 with a 3x optical zoom lens and 11x digital zoom. Sony's Cyber-shot DSC-P73 is no stripped-down "entry-level" camera, it sports features like a 5-point auto focus system that actually works properly, full manual exposure control, multi-pattern metering with graphical mode, scene modes, histogram display and a fast image processor that allows it to capture up to 4 Fine mode images per burst.
Better than the competition, only Canon I would suggest, Sony includes a set of 2100 mAh rechargeable NiMH batteries that can capture up to 410 pictures. FAB. The Canon are better because with industry standard compact flash you get much better downloading software and very much cheaper memory eg 256k at £16 rather than 2x128MB Sony at £45.
Downloading photos is the achilles' heel. Clearly much less work has gone into the software for memory sticks than compact flash. To download photos from this Sony, you have to use explorer, navigate to the correct folder and delete the images yourself later. Rubbish. With a Canon (and probably other CF cameras but Canon are best for other reasons), its a one click process, all photos can have unique names and are deleted once copied successfully.
Having said that I have just moved from a Canon S45 to this Sony P73. I love the Sony maybe because its newer and because its Sony. In every other way it is superior or matches the Canon. If it used compact flash it might just eb the most perfect 4 megapixel camera on the market. Sony batteries are £5 from Hong Kong or £15 in the UK, Canon are £6 or £80 in the UK.

Sony has Red Eye Reduction & noise reductionwhicht he Canon does not. Canon are suppsoed to have superiod lens but I'm not a pro and the Carl Zeiss Sony lens is perfect.

On the street the Sony & Canon are the same price once you've upgraded the memory on both to 256k. You should get your batteries from Hong Kong off eBay then start clicking.

Major features for convenience:
Sony 4.1 Megapixel effective CCD image sensor
Sony 3x Zoom (38-114mm equivalent in 35mm photography)
Still Image: 2304x1728, 2304(3:2), 2048x1536, 1280x960, 640x480
MPEG Movie: 640x480 VX Fine w/audio at 30fps (Memory Stick Pro required),
640x480 VX at 16fps, length limited only by media
Auto, Program AE, Manual plus Scene modes
Live histogram display in capture and playback
5 Area Multi-point AF; auto or selectable Spot AF point
1.5" TFT color (67,000 pixels) LCD Screen with Auto Brightness
ISO Sensitivity: Auto, 100, 200, 400
Adjustable color saturation, contrast and sharpness
Noise Reduction: Automatically cleans up long exposure images
14bit A/D Conversion - allows a wider dynamic range from highlight to shadow
Built-in flash with Auto Fill, Red Eye Reduction and Slow Synchro
USB 2.0 Auto-Connect to host computer
Audio-Video output for display on TV sets
Powered by two AA batteries, NiMH and charger included
Memory Stick & Memory Stick Pro compatible to 1GB, 16MB included
DPOF and PictBridge direct-print USB compatible

Both Canon's magnesium body which is too thin and Sony's half plastic body are not hard wearing enough for complex digital camera electronics so you need a good case and to take care compared to the old bullet-proof SLRs of old.
