i recieved this camera for christmas and must say it is very easy to pick up how to work it. especially if you dont read the instructions and just play around with the buttons. the picture quality is amazing and cutting photos on the camera is made very easy and with interchangeable pixel quality. the zoom is amazing and i must say i was thinking of getting a viedo camera as well but the video and sound quality on it is brill.
with ease of use being high and the video capturing being excellent i think this camera would be an excellent buy for the first time amateur to the semi pro.
the only one problem i could say with this camera is if u are useing the video function alot then no matter what batteries you have in it, be it rechargeable or normal, the dont have the longest staying time.
despite everything i think this camera is excellent for the price it was accept, not having a case when recieving it.

hope this helps everyone

feel free to drop me a line if any other questions

ok so as this was my first review i have had some user comments and im going to ellaborate for some people after finding out what they wiah to know.

i like taking pictures of cloud formations and scenery instead of just people and things, so when looking for a camera i was looing for a high pixel count and a high optical zoom, and this camera has both which are very reasonable for the price paid. there are lots of functions and not to many buttons which allow the ease of use, and the software for the computer that comes with this camera is reasonable but i found it easier using paint shop pro the latest revision, im not a big fan of all this sony software as i dont find it very user friendly

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-S500 - review by Duzvi

Advantages: This is the best camera one can get especially if you are on holiday and want to take as many photos as possible!
Disadvantages: You cannot do a poster of AO size unless you have to have a 4gig card but then probably this camera will not support 4gig i suppose.
