My review is about the digital camera model Sony - DSC S730, I personally own one of these cameras and have so for around four months, I purchased mine after my previous Sony camera got broken, I am definitely a loyal Sony customer so purposely went looking for another Sony digital camera of maybe a bit more advanced quality and settings than my old one. I looked in various places and eventually looked at Tesco Extra's electrical section it was just the right price I was looking to pay, I compared it in my mind to the other Sony cameras on offer at the same shop and also some of other brands and chose this as the one I was going to buy. I paid £90 for this model of camera all though I have been to the same shop since and it has gone down in price, isn't it always the way. You can buy this digital camera directly from Sony, from various electrical shops, supermarkets and internet electrical shops at bargain prices shop around for the best prices. This camera consists of the following specifications
7.2 mega pixel resolution allowing pictures to be enlarged up to a maximum of A3 size.
3x optical
zoom lens bringing things closer to you to take pictures of.
High sensitivity mode of ISO 1250 for when the light is not very good and can also help correct movement from lowering your photo quality.
An LCD screen of 2.4 inches, making the viewing window brilliant for seeing what you are taking pictures of and helping you get the picture you want.
Multipoint auto focusing for accurately focused pictures, even if what you are taking pictures of has movement/is moving.
On screen function guide for extra easy usage
Histogram displays image brightness for checking your exposure settings accurately
Shoots up to 440 quality pictures
Movie recording for small videos that uses JPEG, AVI (Motion JPEG) formats
Single, multi point and centred weighted auto focus
It has four flash modes which are auto, forced flash, slow synchronised, no flash, it also has pre flash and red eye reduction I have found the red eye reduction works really well and there is a large noticeable difference between this and my old camera. There's also white balance features these include automatic, day light, cloudy, fluorescent1, incandescent and flash. Battery Power
My battery on my old camera was absolutely awful it only took a few pictures on new batteries before the battery icon flashing up. This camera takes two AA alkaline batteries I use Duracell as I have found these to have the best results and last a few days depending on how much I am using the camera. Cheap batteries in this digital camera really do not last very long but you get what you pay for. I have found this camera uses more battery power when it is used in the video mode. When I am taking my digital camera somewhere for the day such as a family day out I always take a spare set of batteries or two and I would suggest you do the same so you aren't disappointed when the battery life runs out. The manufacturers say the battery life is capable of 440 shots lasting approx 220 minutes When the batteries are getting close to running out a red battery light is shown in the corner of the screen, once the battery life it quite low it can affect the quality of the pictures the camera produces.
Viewing Editing Your Pictures and Videos
This camera has a on board slide show viewer to view the pictures you have taken before doing anything else with them, it also has editing features such as re-sizing, trimming, image rotate, auto image rotate, cue and review it also has playback index and zoom. If you want to put any of the pictures you take either onto a computer or directly onto a printer this camera comes with the cable to do so and also a disk with some editing software to help you edit your pictures to make them look how you want them. Once on a computer you can correct them, resize them, crop bits out, change colour and add all sorts of effects to your pictures being as creative as you like. By doing this you can also upload them and show your pictures and photography skills off to people.
Video Feature and Picture Quality
I have used this quite often mainly when out places it isn't exactly video camera quality but for the size and convenience it is a really useful feature, you can also view the videos taken on the camera once you have taken them and also put them onto your computer just like you would with an image.
The pictures come out really well except from in the dark where you may as well not bother taking pictures, the flash does help but then there is a lot of un wanted reflection that can ruin pictures, also pictures that are taken into the light are really hard to correct but I would think that's a general all around problem with digital cameras unless you want to be spending mega money on one. It captures movement really well especially in good light getting high quality pictures showing the lines of what ever is moving without being at all blurry. I have been really pleased with some of the pictures I have taken with this Sony camera and enjoy taking it places so I can share moments my family and I experience. Movement of the camera does not cause major issues either so you can be flexible when taking the pictures you want.
It is easy to take pictures with and all the functions are well explained in the instruction booklet that it comes with, anyone could use this camera even children there are no complicated buttons that can't be understood each one has a little picture next to it to show you what it is, if you aren't familiar with these pictures they are explained in detail in the instruction booklet. Also there is operating instructions available online on the producer Sony's website for this model.
Menu
The menu is easy to use and goes through it quick the software on there is not slow and does not lag at any point, so you can change settings quickly ready to use for your next photos. You can also delete selected pictures from you camera and edit them using this menu which is sometimes easier to do it before you put your pictures onto the computer. The menu is also available in several different languages including Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hungarian, Italian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Swedish and Turkish I feel this is a brilliant feature so other people of different languages can enjoy taking pictures with this camera too.
Accessories
My camera came with software including picture motion browser Ver.2.2, picture package and music transfer, other accessories with my purchase were wrist strap, paint pen, C.D-ROM, alkaline batteries, dedicated AV cable, dedicated USB cable. I also got a 2 year guarantee with this camera which is more than some others that you only get a one year guarantee. At the time of purchase I was also made aware of other accessories available as extra these were accessory kits, higher power/rechargeable batteries and chargers, case, printer, tripod, cleaning kits and extra insurance/warranty.
Reliability and ConclusionI haven't had a single fault with my camera not had to replace anything or have any repairs it is also very robust being regularly subjected to being dropped on the floor and it's still working the odd scuff maybe.
I shall definitely be buying another Sony digital camera when an upgrade worth paying more for comes out I like the light sleekness of this camera and the pictures it takes Sony is definitely a leading brand in digital cameras and also lots of other electrical things. I recommend this digital camera to people wanting to take good quality pictures with a long lasting quality digital camera.
