It is a very convenient size of (h x w x d) 9 cm x 6 cm x 2 cm. It fits snugly in the hand and safely in a pocket. It weighs around 5 oz (155g) including the battery. It feels very secure in a grip and I particularly like how it comes with a view finder and an LCD screen as I find it hard to set up a shot using just the LCD- too many years of habit to be overcome. The LCD screen I find useful for checking my shots and it’s plenty big enough to look at the video files, being around 6 cm.
Everything on the camera is well laid out, as you would expect from a Sony. • The front is taken up with the viewfinder, the lens, flash and the sensor. • The top gives you the power button and indicator, shutter button and microphone • On the bottom are the multi connector speaker and the tripod point. • The side has hooks for the strap and covers where the battery and memory card are inserted. • The rear consists of the large LCD, the rear of the viewfinder, the mode dial, control dial, zoom button (in and out), image lock indicator, self timer indicator, playback button, menu button
The DSC-W90 has a sensor resolution of 8.1 megapixels which means the image is of a high quality, and can be enlarged further without the image degrading. The actual picture resolution is 3,254 x 2,448 pixels. To get an idea of that … the picture of me is on this page is 100 x 137. As you can see, that resolution gives you plenty of space to crop to get the best out of the picture. The macro on this camera is from 4 cm to infinity with wide-angle and from 35 cm to infinity with telephoto lens.
It has a Carl Zeiss x3 optical zoom and this doesn’t unbalance the camera when fully out. The picture does not degrade at all when using this zoom.
Its ISO range is 100, 200, 300, 400, 800, 1600, 3200 and automatic ISO. The ISO range allows you to select the sensitivity of the sensor; the higher the value, the greater the sensitivity and the better the photo quality in poor lighting conditions without using a flash.
Shutter speeds are good, this controls reaching the sensor. The shutter speed controls the exposure time (the amount of light) of the sensor. It has a built in flash which is adequate. Its effective range is 22 ft It produces its images as JPGs which is very convenient, although when working with a JPG its best to save each file you are working on as a BMP as JPGs will develop more artefacts the more they are saved so the picture can deteriorate. Saving stages as BMPs circumnavigates this problem. It transfers images to the PC either via USB 2.0 & Pictbridge
It has a video mode that produces images 640 x 480 pixels at 30 images /sec. The sound quality is passable as one would expect from a camera of this type
It has it has a self timer which gives you a delay of 2 seconds or 10 seconds. 2 seconds mean you have to move quite sharpish if the photo of yourself but is very useful for when the camera is set on its tripod. You can set the timer and stand back and there is no chance of camera shake from pressing the button- worth doing for important photos..
The camera gives you face recognition and anti-redeye and it also has a ‘Super Steady Shot Image Stabiliser’ which does help to reduce blurriness due to camera movement particularly in zoom mode. Any movement is exaggerated when the zoom is out so it’s worth using a tripod or supporting your hands or stop breathing...Just long enough to take the photo!
It has a selection of preset scene modes: • Twilight • Twilight portrait, • Landscape • Snow • Beach • High sensitivity • Soft mode
It also has colour modes:
• Natural • Vivid • Sepia • Black and white
White Balance choices: • Auto, • Day light • Cloudy • Fluorescent 1/2/3, • Incandescent • Flash
Making the correct choice from the above lists do really make a difference to the end results and its well worth playing around with different settings for the same photo , that way you can get a better idea of the end result.

I am really happy with this camera, it is small and light enough to go with you anywhere, and it conveniently fits in a pocket. Even though it is light the build quality is good and it feels sturdy rather than flimsy.
All of the buttons are easy to reach without contorting fingers and the fully automatic is great for people who don’t have much technical knowledge. it is worth getting to know the camera and its settings well as that makes the difference between good images and superb images.
It has a medium appetite for batteries so I always keep ready charged spares in the bag ( it doesn’t come with its own bag but its easy to get a good one that it will fit in ,with enough room for spare batteries and memory cards.
I have been very pleased with the pictures and the quality of each image has improved as my understanding of the cameras capabilities has increased. I haven’t used the macro as yet as its not often I want to take pictures of bugs!
I would recommend this camera to someone like me… an amateur who wants quality imagers with a minimum of effort and a maximum of convenience.
If you do decide to buy this cameras it really is worth shopping around, the prices differ widely as to the items the seller may include, such as memory card, bag and tripod.
Advantages: amazing picture quality and depth of colour, wide range of features, small, lightweight Disadvantages: there are none
...stands out and the actual Sony brand name. Once they see the range and quality of the features, many are hooked and cannot help but fall in love with it. Personally, I think it is a great example of how digital photography has been brought to the masses, but feel that it is a little too basic for my own needs, hence my experience will be given from the demonstrations I have performed for customers. A brand new Cyber-shot DSC-W90 ... ...As it is a Sony product you can expect to find many an online retailer battling out and driving prices down. Where I work we have this on sale for £175, but as with most things these days, a quick look around the Internet will result in bargains to be found and second hand models can be found on several auction sites for less than £100. I recently purchased the Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-W90 for £199.99. The Camera I bought came in silver but it also comes in black.
Its a small, lightweight and compact digital camera. I think it looks great and is a handy little gadget.
Let me give you a run down of the specification and some of the features:
Audio Input:
The DSC-W90 has a built in microphone which is handy, However if its a blustery day the sound quality on video playback isn't great ... ...have always been impressed by Sony in this area.
Lens: The DSC-W90 has a Aspherical Lens and Built in Lens Shield and a Focal Length of 35mm - 105mm and an Automatic Focus Adjustment Feature, Which all adds to great quality snaps.
Video Input:
Digital Video Format - MPEG VX

I purchased this camera the month that it was released in the UK. So having had it a few months what do I think...
Well, for a start it beats my old Minolta hands down. It's light weight and a decent size, so sits in my hand quite nicely. And looks rather fetching in black!
Upon turning it on it becomes pretty clear how you go about using the device. For the less technical amoung us, the selector wheel cycles through the preset options for the ... ...standard setting 'little green box' could be classed as 'simple mode' and is where the new technology of Face Detection comes into play. It's quite novel (sadly the novelty hasnt worn off even after sitting infront of the tv to see if the camera detects people on the box)....(which is does!) and means that most faces within the frame are perfectly focused. Useful for a group photo.
LCD screen on the back is sizable, taking up most of the back so ...

The Sony DSC W90 is one of the cheaper pocket sized cameras. Its strong points include ease of use. This camera is one for the shortlist if you are looking for a camera you can slip into your pocket, but you don't really want to spend all your pocket money. The DSC W90 is aimed at someone looking to take the normal range of snapshots on holiday and at all the usual social occasions. This camera has a 8 Megapixels and a 3 times ... ...(WHD, in inches) and weighs 5.2 ounces, including battery and Memory Stick Duo card. It's easy to slip this one in your pocket, and as the old saying goes, your best camera is the one you have with you. When i got one it came with the basics (sans memory card and HD cable). Although the camera has 31MB of internal memory, budget another £25 for a 512 MB card. You'll get the camera, wrist strap, battery/charger, hydra-headed cable, and software CD-ROM ...

...my opinion is that all sony cyber shot cameras are not good cameras and very expensive, because i have know many who bought this camera tell me that these sony cameras are bad cameras. Please do not buy this camera, is has to many disadvantages.
Buy a camera that has a battery with it, so you dont need to spend a lot of money for batteries!!! ...
