I always thought it’s always wise to review a product all the more for cameras like Sony Cybershot DSC HX1 to have enough feel of it. Since I am not pro photographer, it takes me time to get acquainted it and then learnig to use all its features. I believe being an armature it gives an advantage to review because their inclination to understand and experiment with its features in depth. So I know the advantages that I will enjoy as an amateur, the pros will be able to do even greater justice to it. Since it is difficult for me to own such expensive cameras, I prefer to all on my friends tell me about it and let use it for a while. As a reviewer I liked this stuff to write on because there are so many things positive about Sony CyberShot DSC-HX1"bridge" dSLR which are worth looking at. I strongly believe this camera provided a great platform promising and budding amateurs who want to make photography as a career option.

Again the rat race has probably began for megazoom dSLRS and will go on for sometime to come. Fortunately they are no longer battling for the size of the lens. Sony enters the megazoom category with Sony CyberShot DSC-HX1 probably keeping in mind 2009 will not see any decline in consumer interest for this type of super dSLRs. I must say that that entrance has in the least undermined its arrival in other categories. It is true that it is stuffed with some technologies form the Alpha dSLR ranges and they include:

1) ½.4 in 10 megapixel Exmor CMOS sensor (9 megapixel images)
2) 20X f2.8-5.2, 2.28- 560 mm equivalent optically stabilized lens.

Technically these dual incorporation should improve photo quality few notches higher than those in its class. But this has proved beyond doubt that technical expectation does not always match reality. In fact my experience is the photo quality is just adequate/mediocre. But highs like it’s features (really wide ranging), impeccable video, fast performance-they contribute to a large extent to somewhat overshadow this negative or low aspect. It is justified to argue that cameras are meant for photos and not range of features. But this argument has been made to compromise with its over all performance, which is nothing less than mind-blowing.

BEFORE GOING INTO DETAILS LETS UPDATE WITH ITS 10 HIGHS:

1) A 20X lens (covering from 28mm at the wide angle to 560 mm telephoto)
2) 3 inch tilting LCD display screen
3) It shooting speed ( upto 10 frames/sec)
4) High Quality video recording
5) The New CMOS sensor
6) Small and light (should make any one happy while traveling)
7) The retouch system
8) Excellent functionality of the Movie Mode
9) Fast AF capability.
10) A fantastic panorama option

THE LOWS:

1) It does not perform to the expected level as far as the quality of photos.
2) The view finder is too small
3) The limitation of the Burst mode (10 frames)

THE DESIGN:

With its dimensions at115mm x 83mm x 92mm (4 5/8" x 3 3/8" x 3 5/8"),and at 18.1 oz ia good enough while traveling, having a substantial grip makes for a perfect and steady hold. Just to rear of the pop up flash is the stereo microphone, followed by the power, review and custom button. At the front is the shutter plus zoom. Focus selection is at the middle.

As you grip the camera the prod with which the aperture, exposure, ISO sensitivity and shutter speed is in controlled is right under the right thumb. This for me, make things easier. The standard 4 way navigation is very frustrating. This prod lets you toggle through self timer, macro mode, display and flash options. This is an excellent improvisation.

Again with the top level menu you can set image size, white balance, metering, bracket size (in increments), and type such as exposure, white balance/color accordingly, face detection, flash intensity, red eye reduction, noise reduction, Dynamic Range Optimizer (DRO), color effects, sharpness, contrast and of course Steady Shot image stabilization.

THE MODE DIAL:

It offers the normal or typical shoot modes:
1) Manual as well as semi-manual
2) Anti Motion Blur (thereby raising shutter speed and ISO sensitivity)
3) Movie
4) Programmed Scene

TWO GREAT FEATURES:

1) Sweep Panorama Mode
2) Hand Held Twilight

SWEEP PANORAMA MODE:

This is an incorporation I really adored and in future if my pocket permits I will definitely go for Sony CyberShot DSC-HX1 not only for its other impressive qualities but of course this one. It is absolutely astounding and I loved it. Just pan the the camera horizontally or vertically. It will keep on shooting continuously and get enough shots and build up a panorama as you release the shutter. Wonderful, 4912x1080 or 7152x1080, i.e. standard or wide. The 20X zoom is perfect and with a good printer 11x20 print just comes great.

HAND HELD TWILIGHT MODE:

It’s a must use feature while shooting at low light and flash free. Sony CyberShot -HX1 burst number photos at high ISO, stitching them, producing bright, crisp pictures with very low noise.

IT’S SPEED:

It shoots at a nippy 2 seconds and again focuses and shoots in 0.4 seconds. The 10 shot ultra high speed burst mode (10.6 frames/sec), give it a breather of 16 seconds, it will do it again and equally fast. (But please note must have fast card).
The HX1 unequivocally leads its class for performance.

VIDEO:

It supports or produces H.264 compressed and MPEG-4 formats. The video quality is superb (1080p) but you need a HDMI to an HDTV.

AN ISSUE:

To make its file format compatible with WMP 11 you need to download Halli Media Splitter FFD show, but it’s won reproduction suits me alright.

A COMPLAIN FROM ME:

The absence of Night-shot and RAW is a bit disappointing.

BATTERY:

Considering its demands: LCD, high-speed bursts, HD video, the li-ion batter life is amazingly long.

SUMMARY:

It’s performance on the whole is so good, it makes up for its average picture quality.

AT a price of around £429.99 it is pricey but no complains.
