The sampling frequency for the DSD format is 2.8224MHz, 64 times higher than the 44.1kHz frequency of conventional CD. This frequency means that quantization is conducted at a rate of 2.8224 million times per second, and is recorded as 1-bit data on the disc. Although the bit number is just 1/16 of that used for the CD format, the sampling frequency is 64 times higher, resulting in a data capacity for DSD which is 4 times greater than that of the CD. In principle, it is possible to expand the frequency range to approximately 1.4MHz." Advantages: 30hr battery life, 13000 tracks and 20gigs hard drive
Disadvantages: tracks must be converted to atrac3plus, not that easy to navigate

Advantages: Small, Compact, Looks great and its a Sony
Disadvantages: Low earphone volume

If you have an internet connection, the software will even look up the CD you are transferring, and label each track to match the titles of the songs. Very slick indeed! I am not sure how the other reviewer of the N710 managed to come up with 40 minutes (?) of copying time, but personally I found that a whole CD is copied to MiniDisc in about five minutes - also including the time it took of for the software to look up the CD on an Internet database, and download the album title and track titles. Before the actual transfer is performed, the software will automatically convert the files to Sony's native ATRAC format. Unfortunately you cannot use the highest fidelity mode (SP), only LP2 or LP4.
