I purchased the Sony HDD cam towards the end of 2007. It cost me just over $1100 Australian, (around 320 GBP).

Although the model is listed as SR60, in fact the hard-drive storage is 30gb, and I've found that this provides more than adequate room for my needs. You can record on this camera in several modes - Ive just set mine on High Quality mode which according to the instruction book is good for around 440minutes recording time- surely enough to satisfy most video buffs ! I'm not a whizz at connecting these things up, and getting the info on to computer, but I found the Sony remarkably easy to deal with. It was just a matter of putting the camera on its cradle, and transferring the digital footage through a supplied cord to the 2.0 USB slot of my computer (on which I'm running Windows XP Home). The camera came with a basic video editing package called Pixela Imagemixer. When the video footage is successfully transferred to the PC, you can make simple cuts, and re-arrange clips etc. However, I wanted to do more with the footage, as I like using Windows Movie Maker to edit my videos. Problem was that the digital video wouldn't show up in WMM - only sound could be heard. I learnt after some experimentation that it was necessary to convert the original digital mpeg files to a different type of MPEG sound file. This was easy to do with Pixela - it gives you this option. Then when you've converted the file, you can edit the footage OK on Windows Movie Maker.
Overall impressions -- I was impressed with the quality of this Sony camera. It's very portable, and it has an easy-to-follow LCD screen. I would recommend it to fellow Ciao video enthusiasts.

With a 30GB built-in hard disk drive, the DCR-SR60 lets you capture up to 20 hours of video or nearly 10,000 still pictures in 1-megapixel digital still memory mode. With on-screen zoom and record buttons, and a 2.7-inch LCD wide touch-panel swivel screen, you'll have complete control over every detail of your video.
