Compatable with both CD-R's and CD-RW's, this Sony product is almost alongside the ranks of a Mini Disc player, apart from it's size of course. With it's simplistic circular design, it may still be too bulky to fit in your average pocket, but at 5.38 inches in diameter it's certainly compact considering it's carrying a CD!

The player seems to make the most of Duracel (AA) batteries and lasts for between 40 and 50 hours if they are previously unused. The Sony D-FJ401 is jog proof - it withstands a huge amount of bumping about (that doesn't mean it's safe to drop it! - I'm guessing 3 or 4 on the richter scale max.!). My only real negative comment would be the battery holder being beneath the CD slot, which means you have to take out the CD to replace them, only a problem if you're either; on the move, or losing your favourite part of a track!

There isn't an in car kit supplied with this model, though a small amount of cash can remedy this (that's if you haven't previously purchased a CD Player with this accessory). There are a vast number of programmable radio stations on the CD player that are easy to enter once you get into the swing of things. The buttons are plenty big enough, and also clear to see, the only bad point being the Play/Stop/FFW/RW etc. button being centralised onto one control, which, if you are trying to navigate from in your pocket may prove a wee bit tricky!

This product can be bought from www.buy-cheap-electricals.co.uk for £80, which isn't as cheap as the website name suggests it should be as I have seen it in most high street stores (Jessops, Dixons etc.) for £60 to £70. The player is approximately a year old (at the time of writing), and for this length it is quite expensive still, though it is a durable piece of equipment which is very reliable all round. The later Sony DEJ760 has all of the same components apart from the radio feature, and is priced at £69 from Argos and other similar outlets.
