However the program has one downfall, it doesn't let you save a playlist. This means that you can't just add albums and create a new disk when you want one. The conversion to Atrac from a CD or an mp3 can take a long time, as does wrinting the CD. The jog dial system works well and makes it easy to search through albums. This is basically an improved CD player and i liked it!

The sonyD-NE511/S comes with power compression software which allows you to put up to 30 CD's onto one CD and play it through your D-NE511/S. The missing word in that sentence is ONLY...these compressed CD's can only be played through sony walkmans with ATRAC recording technology which makes it hard if you want to share your newly created mixes with friends. battery life, you should switch the ESP to off - that's right - if you want longest playtime, turn that anti-shock protection off!!! So you get the choice of jog-proof and only play a short time, or longer playback but it might skip if you knock it.
This is one of the few items that I've returned (it was bought online so that was a hassle in itself) - it just wasn't acceptable. I'm willing to admit that there might have been a problem in the model I had (although doubtful - what would go wrong that would make it use more battery power?), but I wasn't prepared to risk it and so went with a SonyD-NE511 (also reviewed) - the difference is amazing - hello 85 hour playback times!!!
Sorry Philips but either your product or your quality control sucks. I'll not risk your CD player products in future. ...

I bought this new sonyD-NE511 just for the list of functionalities it provided and the sound quality of sony is trusted. I'm writing this review after 2 months of purchase. It can play audio cds(cd-r,cd rw), mp3 files and atrac3 plus format files. Atrac 3 plus is a audio compression technology that preserves the high quality of songs even at higher compression rates.
