The player is an upscaling player which means that your standard dvd's will be much brighter and crisper than when you play them on a standard dvd player. ... ...player which weighs no more than the standard players on the market and when I first switched this on and inserted my dvd I was impressed by how quiet running the player was as well as how bright the picture was (my previous player was a Bush with upscaling which I was impressed with but this blew that out of the water).

The player is an upscaling player which means that your standard dvd's will be much brighter and crisper than when you play them on a standard dvd player. The player has this technology inbuilt but remains a slimline player which weighs no more than the standard players on the market and when I first switched this on and inserted my dvd I was impressed by how quiet running the player was as well as how bright the picture was (my previous player was a Bush with upscaling which I was impressed with but this blew that out of the water).
This is a fantastic piece of kit which is packed full of features as well as having the standard features work perfectly (fast forward, chapter skip, pause, etc). The remote for the player is fairly sizeable in comparison to remotes of other players available but this can be taken as a positive as makes the buttons easier or negative due to the space it takes up.
Advantages: Great picture Disadvantages: no HDMI cable

First test was a Lord of the Rings DVD. The picture quality is astounding with HD upscaling. Flawless skin tones, colours. Sharpest image I have ever seen. Truly remarkable considering I only used the quick setup (less than 5 minutes). It does the same to DIVX DVDs and JPEG pictures. I also had some really large photos as I have a DSLR camera and to see some of my pictures so large, ... ...Smartlink feature which is for Sony TVs is a good feature as it means you can hide one remote straight away. It also means if you switch one off the other switches off as well.
The sound is good but is very dependent on the TV or if you use Surround Sound Etc... At the price level you would probably struggle to find a cheaper HD DVD player. If your TV is not HD you have cheaper options. If it is HD then this is a good value for money option until ...
