Well i dont know much about electronics, all i know is that i love gadgets and electronic things to play about with!hmmm...ok sounding rather dodgy there so i'll rephrase that... i love buying new electronic items (e.g.cd players, mp3 players etc) because it just gives me a buzz plugging it all up and seeing what it has to offer. in my bedroom i own many electronic things (god only knows what percentage of the electricity bill i'm using up), amongst which i have my sony 14" tv and video recorder, and recently i bought a sony dvd player online to go with my set. the make is the DVP-NS305
and its also has mp3 playback, which allows u to listen to mp3s on the dvd player (for e.g. when u burn mp3s onto certain cds they cant be played on most cd players, but u can play them on this dvd player).
~~COST~~ After receiving my first bunch of dvds from america from a dear friend (thanks babe!) i was over the moon! it didnt take me long to realise that dvd's actually had regional settings and i couldnt just bung them in a playstation or pc and expect them to play. so i had to buy a multi regional dvd player...i didnt really see this as a burden, more of an excuse to splash out on yet another electronic item!so i looked online and found a great deal on a multi-regional player. now, i know the player im reviewing doesnt say anything about being multi regional, and it isnt. i actually got a special deal from a supplier up in birmingham who changed the settings of the player to make it multi-regional (i have NO idea if thats allowed but it worked for me!). i got the player for a fantastic £135, in the shops this exact multi regional player was around £200, i was well chuffed when i came across this deal. however, if u want a good deal on things like this, u really have to be patient and keep looking. get a friend to help u (thats what i did, thanks again babe!), and look online because they offer the best deals.
~~THE PLAYER~~ When i first took the player out of the box i was SO shocked as to how light and thin it was. i've never come across anything like it actually. The player itself is extremely easy to use and plug up. because i have a video player which requires a scart lead to the tv, i had to buy a multiple scart lead thingy so that i could attach them all together so they worked in unison. otherwise i'd be switching scart leads all the time. if ur using a 3 coloured video input jack, i have no idea about it so im sorry cant help u there!all the details are in the manual, and most are pictures so its ok if ur a lazy bum at instruction booklets (like me).once its all wired up u'r ready to go. when the dvd screensaver comes on it really does reflect the quality of the product. its a picture of a lovely lucious blue with a crystal clear ripple of water, as if to indicate the softness but clarity of the player.i'd recently used an Aiwa dvd player at a friends house and the screen saver that first came up was just so dull, it didnt really make me want to use it that much! when u insert a dvd, the dvd starts up right away. the remote control allows u to interact with all the features and is extreeeeeeeemely easy to use. the remote control is ergonomically designed well so that it fits in ur hand perfectly without being heavy on one side or too bulky. the player is so light that i even took it to my sisters house to watch an american dvd on, and i just put it in a bag and slung it on my back. who'd have thought i had a dvd PLAYER in my bag?!when i got there however i put the dvd on and realised id forgotten the remote control, and there was NO other way of controlling it. that was the only disadvantage i saw in this player.if u run out of batteries, then u will have to replace them pretty quick, and if the remote breaks then u'll have to go thru the annoying process of getting a new one.
all in all however, this is a great little player for those who just want to watch dvds without any extra features (e.g. dvd recorder). if ur not in the situation where ur remote will easily break or be damaged then i'd say this player is almost perfect!
good luck with the dvd player hunting! thanks for reading :)
Great op, thinking of purchasing a Sony dvd myself and this has helped tremendously! Thanks, Tom

great op! I'm a bit of a sony freak myself, and this sounds like a great dvd player, except for the remote..

Loved reading that opinion. Well done! I've been looking to get a DVD player myself, but now I know which one to home in on. Thanks! ;) -Ash (You're welcome!)
