I purchased the Sony DVP-NS330DVD player earlier this year and was, and still am very impressed. It’s a simplistic but effective player. I chose this player for a number of reasons including the Sony brand.
The player itself is compact and sleek, very attractive and slim-line. It is finished in metallic silver and has a fairly large display. The controls on the unit are organised very well. The player features a dial used for searching and can also be pressed to play a disc. Other than that there are only six other buttons which control the basic functions, this adds to the simplicity of the design. The player has one scart socket in the back.
The remote control provided is quite large and bulky. However it features a large number of buttons. These are laid out in an organised fashion and help the user effectively control the player. The remote control takes two AA batteries (adding to the bulkiness) which should be provided.
Supported formats: DVD, DVD-RW, VCD, CD, DATA-CD (MP3 CDs). MP3 Cds are played through an on screen browser allowing the user to select tracks, this was a deciding factor for me personally. The player also supports multi-region discs which is great because you are not limited to only Region 2 (UK/European) discs. An option from which I have taken advantage of recently!
The player works well and delivers good sound and picture quality. It offers many features for play mode, for example Shuffle, Repeat, A-B Repeat etc. It also features a rapid scan, slow motion play, search, freeze frame and offers a number of picture modes to suit your TV or preferred viewing experience. The onscreen interface is fairly simple to use and navigate. There are a number of options here such as screensaver, background, tv type etc.
Price wise this DVD player is great value for money. It’s a good quality player by a name that can be trusted and boasts a large number of features. The only drawback really is that it isn’t a DVD recorder but for the price you wouldn’t expect it to be. The unit itself is fairly wide but the slimness of the design makes up for this.
Supplied documentation is very detailed. The instructions are easy to follow with plenty of diagrams, although the system is quite simple to set up and operate.
I would recommend this player to anyone who is looking for an affordable player giving them a range of options and playable formats. This would be an ideal secondary player or DVD player for a child’s room but could also fit perfectly as a main player.
