Reading the reviews on amazon, some said it was multi region straight out of the box. For me, when putting any other region dvd other than 2, it played in black and white. After a bit of research, and thinking I'd have to fork out more ... ...The dvd player is multi region, but my tv was not understanding the video format of the region 1 disc. A simple solution I discovered is simply to change the colour settings on the dvd menu (when there is no disc in it) to RGB.
Having achieved this, I am now a very happy customer! All region discs now play in full colour, as do divx formats, CD-RW etc.
On top of the function, the box is a sleek looking player. Very slim ... more

Advantages: : PRECENCE OF DIVX AND PRODUCES FANTASTIC PICTURES WITH SOUND. Disadvantages: DOES NOT HAVE SOME THINGS EXPECTED AND TOO SLIM AND LIGHT.
...My using of this present Sony DVD machine I think will make me rest for DVD machine in the sense that before talking of buying another DVD machine, that will be long. This particular DVD does not have much techies that I expected but I have to take it like that and go on with it. Sony has been quite my favourable product especially in the electronic category.
With my sharp aqua HD ready TV, I enjoy it the most in the sense that the HD ready TVs, ... ...play all but the recent Sony DVD, I have tried the same but it was able to play all.
Another major likes on this DVD machine is that unlike in some DVD machines that do not play The DIVX comfortably, this particular machine, does that comfortably and on the other hand, it is not a multi system DVD that was programmed to play all the versions, but it is made possible with the 1in 4 remote control and it even enables it to play NTSC versions comfortably ...

Quick review of Sony DVP-NS 36
I got my DVD from Amazon.co.uk and I was surprized to see the best ever price offered by Amazon.co.uk but the only thing is that its plays CDs in colour format but DVDs in black and white format. As checked in comments I also change the setting to RGB but still black and white. I played the same DVD with Philips DVD player and it was working fine. I don't know how to fix this problem. Is it the problem which has not got any solution. ...

This is an impressive DVD player. I bought this online from www.time2get.com and I wasn't sure about the brand because it sounds like a cheap "sound-like" replicas but It is definitely worth of money. Small size, very comfortable buttons and easy to use basic interface. This is the first low-budget DVD player I've seen which plays my old VCDs without any problem. Lowest sound extraction is 44200 Khz and result is excellent in my very small scale home theater system. If you especially like music DVDs, this is it..
I've had a SonyDVP-NS36 player but after this one I gave it to my father and kept this Compacks. It is definitely a bargain..
I recommend this player to everyone!
(PS: This does not come with a scart lead; you have to buy one if you want to ...
