A true workhorse from Sony 18 of 18 Ciao Users found the following review helpful

Advantages Long Life

Disadvantages Limited functions compared with new models

We bought this DVD player over ten years ago as part of a TV, DVD and video recorder (that last item instantly dates it, who buys vhs anymore) so I cannot give you a price (the whole package was about £1,200 I think which was not exactly cheap) not that it really matters as it is obsolete now however it has been a total workhorse comfortably outlast the TV from a working perspective and the video recorder from a technological prospective, in those ten years it has easily been used probably three times a week and there has never once been a functional failure on it. It comes with its own remote which requires two AA batteries to provide the power.

It can play both DVD's and CD's although I have never bothered to try it with the latter. It can be set up with a surround sound system but it did not have Dolby sound with it which I can remember the other half moaning about, as if he could tell the difference. Unlike modern DVD players there is no record option with this model.

It is so simple to set up and operate, in fact we have never had to change the settings since the day we got in and what is still great is the picture quality that it produces. The sound is nice and clear and is delivered through the TV speakers via a scart lead. It allows you to scan on two different speeds in order to jump ahead or track back while watching a DVD and the fast speed is pretty quick which is great for avoiding and movie adds that a DVD might have.

It is a simple design, an led display at teh front and the rest of the body is silver in coulour. It has an automatic shutdown if left on for too long

For sheer longevity this has proven to be an excellent purchase and one that we have never really seen the need to upgrade as we would be doing it just for the sake of it. Certainly when it does pass on to the great electrical heaven I would opt for Sony again.
