What with Sony being one of the top of the range brand names that you can get, and also having owned various other products of theirs over the years, I had no hesitation from purchasing this product from them!
Appearance/layout
The Sony D-EJ360 comes in a stylish silver color and is relatively compact in size, which is important to me as I don't want to carry anything around with me that is too bulky!
The LCD screen is a decent size and shows you what track is playing, the play mode, remaining battery power, sound mode and the playing time.
The control buttons are easily located on the sides of the player and consist of the usual stop, play and pause, skip forward/back a track, volume +/-, bass and repeat mode.
Features
One of its many useful features is the G-protection which helps to protect against the sound from skipping. I found this very useful when I'm out jogging, as previous players that I've owned have continually skipped tracks. Sony does state however that the sound may still skip if the player receives an abnormal amount of shock, a dirty or scratched CD is played, or when using poor quality CD-Rs/CDRWs. In no way can I fault the sound quality of this player, it's clear and crisp and the added bass function is great in emphasizing the bass sound. Another useful feature is the heat resistant lid, so no more worrying about the player melting in the summer's heat!
Playback options: -
Shuffle Play - This gives you the option to play the tracks in a random order. Group Shuffle - This will play a selected group of songs in a random order Bookmark - Allows you to add up to 99 tracks of your favorite songs up to 5 CDs and listen to them in order of their track number. Normal playback - Where you can listen to a CD from start to finish.
So what are CDR's/CDRW's?
Explained simply these are blank CDs that have songs 'burned' to them from your computer which you're then able to listen to on this player. It is important for me to note here that copied CDs are of poorer sound quality than of their originals because of this.
Sound Quality
I have a wide range of music tastes ranging from Rock to Classical to Pop to Jazz, and on listening to all these types of music on this player I'm always amazed as to the sound and clarity of the music. As with most players you can turn on the bass to emphasize the bass boosted sound, this again almost sounds as good as listening to music on a top range Hifi system.
Batteries
These are not supplied but this player requires 2 AA batteries or an AC power adaptor. Sony state that the batteries last on average up to 40 hours which I have found to be about right.
Headphones
Included with the player are one set of standard Sony headphones, these I have found to be very uncomfortable in my ears and the sound leaks out even on a low volume setting.
Other info
What I like about this player is the volume control features an AVLS (automatic volume limiter system). This feature can be turned on to protect your hearing however loud you set the volume.
Summary
For a CD player that only cost me under £20 in the sales, I've got a good quality, top named brand product, that has all the features that I need, superb sound clarity and just as important to me, it has a long battery life! CD players me be becoming a thing of the past as more and more of us are opting for mp3 players, but if you're not ready to move with the times then this Sony CD player, in my mind is defiantly for you. One tiny niggle would be that it doesn't come with a belt or a click as although it's compact in size, it's still a little too big to fit in your pocket. This is a minor niggle of mine as doesn't change my high opinion of this player in anyway.
It does come with a 1 year's warranty which can be extended, and so can be used in case of a fault.
This product can be found at Amazon.co.uk for around £25.
