Sony Ericsoon C510

I have been searching for a while for something to review and have been struggling. And then it hit me - my lifeline, my brain, my diary, my best friend, my everything. My PHONE!!!!

I got this phone free when i took out a contract with Vodafone in May this year and feel that i've had quite a while with it now to write an informed review.

Look & Style

The C510 i have is all black, different from the pic on here which shows it as silver but i am uploaded one of my phone so you can see what i mean! The 2.2 inch screen and buttons are on the front and are all readily accesible, no flips or anything for that. The screen is huge! It's great i love how easy it is to see info, texts, websites and so on so clearly! The camera is at the back of the phone at the top and is protected by a sliding cover which slides up and down when you are getting read to take pics. The little slide bit is so handy because it keeps the camera safe and clean. No bits of dirt from your handbag go onto the lens as it is protected. The space for the charger and memory card are on the left side part of the phone and on the right there is a zoom button and a 'take pic' button.

Durability

My phone has had a hard time. I feel sorry for it. Sky, my daughter, has the phone in her mouth covered in slabbers, on the floor, threw from the highcahir to the lino, and it has still managed to remain in one piece. The phone seems to be quite tough and durable which is really handy becuase i couldn't afford to replace it and having scratched on it is horrid.

Battery

The battery is a bit of a let down. I need to fully charge the phone every second day, this may be because i text all day every day though. It is annoying as i sometimes run out of charge before the end of the second day and then i'm stuck without my phone! I don't know if you can buy a product to help with the battery but it may be worth thinking about if you are going to buy the phone.

Camera

The camera is on the back of the phone and is a 3.2 megapixel. I think this is quite good. I know you can get higher than this but i feel for what i want to do, just take general pics for use on my mobile, the pictures are sharp, full of real life colour and just look really good!! There is a few options to do with the camera, you can take pictures or record videos, have the light on or off, night mode, self timer, microphone (for vids only), effects(black and white, sepia, negative). A few of these are quite good and i really enjoy using them. The light is good for if you are in a dark place or it is the evening and the self timer if you want to take pics of yourself or you want to be in the picture with friends and family, which is quite handy as you don't always then need to miss out!

Messaging

From the messaging option you can chose to send a new message and then from there you add extras on, tect, video clips and pictures. You can look at your sent messages and drafts. The phone has an amazing feature which i love love love! It's called 'conversation' what it does is you chose someone who you have recently interacted with via text message, and it shows all the texts you have sent and recieved in order to that one person. Which means you don't need to go and forward from your inbox to sent messages to remember what you were talking about! I love it, it's great and handy and sooooo useful!

Features

There are a few features within the phone, you have all the usual, calender, calculator, alarms, timer and stop watch. These are very good for day to day activites, no need to explain for what! lol it's useful having these things on the phone and i really do use them every day. The phone has some new things i have never seen before on a Sony Ericsson, this is my third, such as Track ID, where you hold the phone up to some music and it identifies the song and the artist. For a charge of course, unsure on this as i haven't used it. I don't think it's an amazing thing really! There are a few demo games on the phone, FMX111, demo Jenga, Demo Need for Speed, Demo Tetris and Demo Use The Force. There are no full games on the phone which is slightly disappointing, as you can only play one level or so and then that's it! The games are good but i personaly wouldn't pay to download them as they weren't that good.

Internet

I use the internet every so often to check hotmail and bebo if i know i am waiting on something important, otherwise i normally just wait until i get home and check on the laptop. It is quite easy to use and the homepage was automatically set at Google which i have kept it at as i then just type what ever i anm looking for into the search area. There is also google maps preloaded and Vodafone messenger on my phone, unsure if other phone suppliers have that. Again, i have never used these, i have no need to as i just text everyone!

Media

In the media folder you can view all your photos, videos, and listen to your music. The photos are put into sub folders, headed by the month they were taken and they are little thumb nails, which is quite handy as then you can just see at a glance what you are looking for, instead of searching through of 6 months of photos! I think this has been quite a useful thing!

Memory

I am unsure of how much memory came bulit into the phone but it has not been enough! I am going to buy a little memory card to plug into the side of it. I now cannot send any picture or video messages as it says i have ran out of space. I have tried to delete lots of stuff and still don't have enough space to send a pic messgae. Not ideal!

Price

I got the phone free as i signed up to an 18 month contract with vodafone but the phone is currently selling for around £100 in all major phone retailers. I think this price is justified as it does have soooo many features and the phone is just so sleek and cool.

To sum up i really like this phone, it is handy, good screen size and quick. But it has a bad battery life and memory. I would recommend this phone to friends and i have really enjoyed using it and when it comes time to upgrade my phone i would go for a Sony Ericsson again and hopefully in a years time they will of made an upgraded version of this phone as it's great!

Sounds very good surprisingly compared to other series.

A slobber-proof phone is a great idea! I had a k700i but I found it difficult to use as a phone. When I was ready for an upgrade with my 3-phone they sent me a k530i ~ however I just couldn't manage to use the very tiny buttons: I am still using my Pumpkin Motorola RAZR V3x despite it not having Skype (a benefit the new phone would have had!) . . . ♥ jes ♥
