There are 3rd parties providing better software though, that is compatible with the cable provided the correct drivers are installed. These do not require the Sony Ericsson synchronization software.

The cable itself is compatible with all Windows operating systems from 98 upwards including XP and 2003, however the software supplied, and the most recent software on the Sony Ericsson site are both outdated and at the moment do not support Windows XP Service Pack 2. This seems to be a problem, and I cannot find a fix for this at the moment. The best software for the phone I have found are MOBILedit! and floAt's Mobile Agent. These are compatible with the cable and all the phones supported with the cable, offer a lot more features than the official Sony Ericsson software bundled with the cable and provide a lot more features.

Advantages: Can easily transfer files or other items between phones and pc. Disadvantages: Just made up to suit some mobile phones that is not too convenient.
