...because I've never had a Sony Ericsson, and the number pad is really different (with a more QWERTY set up, rather than 1=ABC, 2=DEF etc. Also, as mentioned before, typing on the little keyboard that pops up when texting is quite difficult - as the buttons are too small. I think that the layout of the keys (2 letters per button, pushing the left or right side of the button) is a function that should probably be dropped by the phone, as I think it ... ...you would get used to it - again, with time. Apart from all this, I think it's easy to get used to, and it's well laid out, without too much confusion.
**Sound quality**
The sound quality of the phone is pretty good. It's really clear to hear other people speaking from the other side of the telephone, and from the other end, the voice is clear too.
**Price**
The price of this phone can vary, ... more
My brother does like to get some of the newest technology around, and has been showing off his new mobile telephone to me for a couple of weeks now. I feel like I know enough, after all his gloating, to be able to write a review about it already!! This isn't a technical review; it's more of a review of what features stand out, and what it's actually like to use the phone - I think that this kind of review if much more helpful for myself, and I hope readers will feel this way too.
**Overall Image**
The phone has a black screen, with black buttons (that have red numbers on them), and this is all surrounded by a silver outline. The camera is located on the back, and the phone doesn't slide or flip - this is its true size. The phone is touch screen sensitive, and you get a little pokey stick that fits into a slot in the back (kept nice and tucked away - less easily lost) so that you can be a bit more precise - the screen isn't small in comparison to human fingers plonking down on it!!!
**Features** Now, this phone does have many features, however I'll just pick out some of the outstanding ones, so that it's more of a recommendation, and not a manual!
~~Camera The camera is 3.2 mega pixel, which is really good for mobile phones at the moment; the phone that I'm looking to buy soon is 3 mega pixel, and I already know that the quality of that is great. Having seen the quality of this camera; it's outstanding, and the same as some general digital cameras that you can buy still - you might as well combine technology and have a mobile and a camera at the same time!!
You can connect the phone to the computer really easily. There is a disk that you need to use to install software, but once this is installed, it's pretty much just plug-and-play, and away you go. You can put music, sound clips, photos and video's from the computer onto your phone, and you can also transfer all this stuff back onto your computer if your phone starts running out of space, or if you just want to put it somewhere safe! Backup is key!!
~~Games The games are pretty snazzy; however this one only did have 2 games available to play; Golf and QuadraPop. The graphics are good, the games are really playable and as with most phone that can connect to the internet; you can always buy more if you really like to play games on your mobile.
~~FM Radio There is a radio that you can listen to, using your earphones. You can store different radio stations into this, so if you get fed up for listening to your music that's stored on the phone, just plug in your earphones and listen to the top 10, or your favourite chat show etc. The music player that is on there has really good sound, and you can listen to your favourite songs out loud.
~~Texting When texting, you can use 3 different ways to get your point across:
-Buttons - the buttons that you would generally type a number out with are set out in the QWERTY keyboard style (if your not sure what QWERTY is - have a look at your fingers on the keyboard now - the top left hand side!!). This can be quite hard to get used to (it's probably the hardest issue with using the phone); with 2 letters per button, it's only hard because it's different - pressing the right, or left side of the button depending on what you want to write.
-Keyboard - a little keyboard is shown on the screen and you can tap the letters you want to use with your pokey stick. This can be quite difficult to use, as the little buttons that appear are quite small to type on - even with the stick!
-Handwriting - again, using your pokey stick, you can just write (like writing with a pencil) onto the screen, and the very-clever-little-thing will pick up what your typing (as long as you are reasonably clear), and put it into a text format for you.
~~Memory - A memory card comes with the phone, it's 512MB, so it hold quite a lot of stuff; and you can always update it if you don't think this is big enough, or if you run out of space. Like a camera, you could buy a few and have them for organised things…if you're really that organised...
~~Video calling It's got video calling, however we haven't tried this out yet so I'm not too sure how well that works. Reviews that I've read so far explain that it works fairly well and does all that could be expected.
~~Business Card Scanner - I found that this feature performed quite well and got most of the information right, even though the business card I used wasn't in very good condition. You take a picture of a business card and press 'process' which sorts the information with names, numbers and emails etc. This is one of the more snazzier features, which aren't really needed; but just make the phone a little bit more exciting.
~~There are loads of other features too, for example, an alarm, a calendar and so on, however these are become standard on most new mobile telephones nowadays, and therefore I didn't put these in.
**Battery Life** The battery seems to last for ages; obviously it depends on how much you are using and what you are using it for (playing games tends to use up quite a lot of battery life), however generally speaking it does last for a few days before having to charge it up again. A tip is to turn off the 3G if you don't use it, and this will make it last even longer!
There is a little docking bay for charging the phone up. I'm not too sure how necessary this is, but I guess if you want to have your phone standing upright whilst it charges, then…awesome!!
**Accessories**
- 2 extra pokey sticks - Headphones (for hands free and radio)
**Ease of use** The phone is really easy to use, but I think it's only easy to use once you've got used to it. Like any new phone - you're always used to your old one, and its hard going for a while, however because I've never had a Sony Ericsson, and the number pad is really different (with a more QWERTY set up, rather than 1=ABC, 2=DEF etc. Also, as mentioned before, typing on the little keyboard that pops up when texting is quite difficult - as the buttons are too small. I think that the layout of the keys (2 letters per button, pushing the left or right side of the button) is a function that should probably be dropped by the phone, as I think it causes confusion rather than ease of use, however I'm sure you would get used to it - again, with time. Apart from all this, I think it's easy to get used to, and it's well laid out, without too much confusion.
**Sound quality** The sound quality of the phone is pretty good. It's really clear to hear other people speaking from the other side of the telephone, and from the other end, the voice is clear too.
**Price** The price of this phone can vary, if you are on a contract you probably wouldn't get it for free, as it's so new and still pretty expensive. However, each different provider would charge different amounts for the phone, and it would also depend on how much you pay on contract at the moment. The best way to find out is to have a look at your contract and see how much it would be from your particular provider.
If you are buying the phone sim free, the price also varies, however I found it online for £347.99 from Amazon.
**My opinion**
I think that this phone is definitely worth having a play with. I'm not too sure if I would like it as my personal phone, however I can definitely see the attractions (some not as necessary as others). The phone looks quite smart and works just like a little computer (especially with the keyboard). I don't think that I'd like to have a little stick to use to work my phone, but from another point of view - my brother loves it and has used a stick on his last 2 or 3 phones, so is so used to it that it doesn't bother him at all.
I think that with most phones, working it just takes a bit of getting used to and as long as you are patient and do keep using it then you will get used to it quick enough and will find that it's a great little phone to have, with loads of little surprises.

...of the P Series from Sony Ericsson. I owned a P910, followed by two P990's. Now I own the P1i.
I've been told that this is not the follow on from the P990, and that another "flip" phone will be joining the P Series shortly. However, since there is no confirmation of that, I feel the need to in parts compare this with the P990.
For those who previously owned, or currently own a P990, I'm sure you would have encountered quite a few problems in regards ... ...with firmware updates, but was still less reliable than it should have been.
The P1i shows massive improvements in this area. I have had this phone for almost 3 weeks now, and have only experienced one instance in which my phone was restarted to improve performance. No other crashes have so far occured. I believe that this is primarily due to the fact that the P1i has 128mb of RAM, which is double what the P990 had on board. I can quite easily have ...

...It is very similar to Sony Ericssons previous offering (P990i) in many ways but has a much more sleek and stylish loiok about it. Below are the features that it includes that I personally have used and are able to comment on, please bear in mind that it includes other features also but if I have not used them, or have used them little then I will not comment on them as I cannot tell you of the full benefit they offer.

The earphones that are supplied with the phone are not the best and can be quite loose but you can always upgrade and buy another pair ...

Advantages: Wifi, Big Colour Screen, Battery Life Disadvantages: The Clunky OS, The Handwriting Recognition, The Camera
...a long time fan of Sony Ericsson phones and a user of a variety of models, I was admittedly apprehensve about taking the plunge into "smart phone" territory. These fears were soon put to rest however, as the P1 really is a phone that, once you get used to, does everything you could want. As a sucessor to the highly innovative P900 series, it is well aimed at the business user rather than the casual user, I recall the looks of astonishment and curiosity ... ...of time. Features wise, Sony really have crammed in a lot to the P1. Some are good and some are not so good. The big bonus for me was the built in wifi, which meant i could connect to my work or home wireless and have full speed internet on the move. This was however when i worked out that it will only connect to an unsecured connection or one with a 64bit WEP key. It wont support higher securirty protocols so bear that in mind. Reading all this ...

Advantages: Display, battery, features, design, size, price Disadvantages: Screen, software(sometimes),keyboard(for some users!)
SonyEricsson has launched new P-series smartphone P1i.
At the moment this SE smartphone is a leader and a simple flgman, combining style, features and quality.
After unsuccessful SE M600, P1i will be frustrating for most of the users, who hate M600.
Nevertheless, SE P1i is much better and easier to operate.
Of course, P1i`s QWERTY keyboard is shoking at the beginning(my suggestion - try and test hard your P1i before purchase!),but couple of hours ... ...a serious buisness phone - nothing extra here,on first view, but take a look again, and you`ll see magnificend job of designer!Everything combines as it should!
Even the size of the phone doesn`t feels! It was a nice surprise to me.
All the features are right for buisiness and a bit of relax/leisure.
This Symbian OS 9 UIQ3 phone has just EVERYTHING!
3G - included!
WiFi - here you are!
3,2 pixel brilliant cam - here we go!
Radio w.RDS - it`s yours!

Advantages: 3.2 mega pixel and is different Disadvantages: Bit larger than any other phone
...thing to note on the Sony Ericsson P1i is the large 2.6" 240x320 pixel TFT display - this is now a transflective panel which means that it can be read more easily outdoors.
The Sony Ericsson P1 is a 3G Symbian smartphone with a QWERTY keyboard which can be regarded as a replacement for the troubled Sony Ericsson P990i

The Sony Ericsson P1i is only a little larger and heavier than the M600 at 106 x 55 x 17mm and 124 grams. Battery life is quoted as 10 hours talk/18 days standby on GSM, 3.5 hours talk/14 days standby on 3G. ...

Advantages: great features Disadvantages: slight more weight
I have sony erisson SonyEricsson Z610i and p1i. These great models have great features. There is more that other models have. Internet access, gprs and good 3.2 mega pixel camera, picture store capacity, facility to write documents and can send via internet. bletooth and voice quality through that is great without any intrruptions.
The most thing is its style, looks. facility of touch screen available.
Double camera can use one at a time to take self pictures. Data store in phone memory or card memory can take to your PC by data cable with no extra software required.
For entertainment Radio, available to listen, also you can store extra songs. Also you can play games like golf and others in your spare time.

Advantages: Good video recording, large screen Disadvantages: Very unreliable, useless GPS and Wireless LAN
't pick up the wireless connection, or disconnects you shortly after you have connected to it. This isn't just a problem with this one handset, there have been many other reports of this and other problems, such as error messages relating to a SIM card not being inserted, random resets of the phone, etc. None of these seem to have been corrected in later models of the phone, nor in firmware updates for the phone.
The battery life is very dismal. I have a SonyEricssonP1i, which is also a Symbian phone. I leave my Wireless LAN on constantly, and regularly use it to make calls and send a lot of texts and emails. I normally get around 3 days of battery life out of the handset. However, you can make a few hours of calls, send maybe 20 texts and use the wireless internet for about an hour and the phone is dead. It normally needs charging ...
