I have had my Sony Ericsoon P800 for about a month now and i am incredibly pleased with it. I can safely say that it is the best phone that i have ever had. My Dad bought my brother one of these babies last year and i have been very jealous of it for months!!! So, when my dad got this phone on an upgrade he gave it to me as he was happy with his Nokia 6310i. I am thrilled! It's a bit of a change from my tiny Nokia 8310i which i have been using for about a year, but it's been a good change. Now that i am used to my P800, the 8310i seems pointlessly small. The Ericcson seems a much better size and is more comfortable when i make a call.
Appearance and Design ...................................................
It has quite a striking appearance as it is erm... pretty big! But it does look quite stylish with the nice summer blue colour. It's nice and round at the top and then it has a very sleek, slim edges. Also the stylus pen is fixed onto the side of the phone which is very handy as i would proabbly lose it. The buttons are also a good size- not too big, just a nice size. The back of the phone is quite stylish aswell. Again, it has the nice metallic blue colour and the detachable back of it has a nice 'dip' in it which adds to the style. The sides of it are a nice silver colour. Overall, the colour and design of it makes up for the size of it.
Functions .........................
The phone has a flip-down keypad. When the keypad is up and your are using it like a normal mobile phone, you have access to the usual functions: camera, messages, phone book, calendar, tasks, jotter. When the keypad is down you should use the style to select the following feactures which you have access to:
1. Build in didgital camera. This is quite good but it is a bit fuzzy. Not as good as the camera that i had on my old Sharp 'David Beckam' phone but it's ok.
2. Pictures. So you can access all the wonderful pics that you have taken When I have had my Sony Ericsoon P800 for about a month now and i am incredibly pleased with it. 2. Pictures. So you can access all the wonderful pics that you have taken. When you enter the pictures, up come the thumbnails of the pics that you have taken. Just click on them to make them bigger. You can also make them bigger by selecting the appropriate function in the 'preferences' option.
3. Video. You can't actually take video clips because the digital camera only take stills. But you can download mini-movies and video clips from camcorders and the internet. You get a little sample video clip and i am very impressed by the quality of the video and the sound. This phone has fantastic speakers.
4. Audio. This is where the ringtones are kept. You are given about 30 pre-loaded polyphonic ringtones which are really good. Also if you log on to the Sony Ericsson Website then you can download more. Some are free, some for a small charge. You can also record up to one hour of audio recording which is handy if you want to record a phonecall or something. The phone also has a mini MP3 Player which is good. You can download about 10-15 songs depending on the memory card you have (standard one you get is 16mb). Pretty good for a phone.
5. Internet. This is pretty much a full working internet service and it's really quick because of the built in GPRS high speed function. You can set your homepage etc and there isn't much you can't view. Again, you use the full huge colour screen to view the internet.
6. Messages. You can create SMS and MMS messages from the phone very easily. You can manually type the mesage in using the buttons with the flap up or you can actually write the message on the screen with the stylus. It decides what letter you have written and makes it nice and neat you get a regular message. You can beam messages and attachments using the Bluetooth with is also handy. It can store loads of messages and will atomatically save a message you have written but not sent.
7. Contacts. Detailled info of the people in your phonebook. Such as home number, mobile number, fax, e-mail etc. You only have to tap their name once with the stylus and it will call them.
8. Speed dials- You can have 9 people on you speed dials. To access them you go to Phone and then click their name. You can have a picture of the person on the speed dial and it also shows you their picture when you call them or they call you, Can be quite fun!
9. Calendar. Full blown calculator. You can write in all your appointements, Space for deatils of your appointments- what they're about, time, place etc. You can also set alarms for them.
10. Jotter. This is where you can write notes with the stylus and then save them. Also can be written manually with the buttons.
11. Calculator. Full basic calculator, uses full screen. Easy to work.
12. Tasks. Write things that you have to do and save them. Also set them in order of priority. Yuo then tick them when you have finished the task.
13. Comes with a few pre-loaded games: solitaire and chess. Quite good. Also can download loads of great games from the internet- racing games, shoot em ups etc. Really crisp graphics and sounds, Much better than most phones.
Plus all other basic functions such as: date and time, battery display, background wallpaper, screensaver etc. The battery is not brilliant but mine frequently last 5-7 days with the phone switched on most of the time.
Overall Impression: ...................................... What can i say? I love it! Some people are put off by the size of it but don't be! You soon get used to it and it fits in your pocket very nicely. Also i doesn't get lost too often! It's packed full with all the latest features that a lot of phones don't have. It is expensive but there are various offers on everywhere. This is a MUST have phone! Enjoy it!

...mobile can handle), but the Sony Ericsson P800 is also the equivelent to a small portable computer. The fact that this phone also has the functions of a PDA changes everything. It gives the user total customability, which means this phone is the phone for everybody. Wether you're after a cookbook, an office application, the ability to listen to new audio formats, play new games, or even turn your phone into a fully functional GPS system or a video ... ...a text message. The reason? Sony Ericsson had already gone better than that. The SE P800 has a built in handwriting recognition function which is suitable for writing text messeges, using with GPRS (entering URLs) and using for software needs (calendar, product keys, notepad (aka. Jotter), etc. And what's even better is that the HR Function is easy to use. It took me about an hour of getting things wrong (which was quite fun, playing with my new ...

1. Sony Ericsson probably realeased it a little early. Early phones needed a firmware upgrade that was only available via Sony Ericsson service centres. If you have an early phone make sure you get the R2D firmware upgrade.
2. There is no predictive text, Sony Ericsson must have assumed we would always use the text recognition (which is fantastic when you practice). However, when you only have one hand free, predictive ...

Advantages: Surprisingly Robust, does everything but cook dinner Disadvantages: Absolutely hopeless as a phone
...I wish in many ways Sony Ericsson would have pulled out all the phone gizmos, cut the price and sold this as a PDA, but in fairness I see why they didn't. Phones are what people want. The problem is, this is a PDA with a hint of mobile phone. To surmise, if you're after a tri-band phone that you can use to contact 30 different people all at once whilst driving a car and playing a harpsichord all at once, just look elsewhere. If you want a user friendly ...

Advantages: Easy to use, saves your license, looks good Disadvantages: Cost, complex to implement, you look like you're talking to yourself!
like the Borg (sorry for the Star Trek reference) to in-car units that make you look as if you're talking to yourself, a crime almost akin to singing along to the radio.
However, I must admit I'd go for looking like a nutter any day than being stopped by PC Plod and finding my already burgeoning license heaped with yet more points and so when I brought my new Jeep I headed out to get myself a new handsfree solution. Not wanting to look like an alien from a science fiction series and not keen on headsets that involve wires being draped across your torso while driving along, I opted to go for a full handsfree kit, where callers would happily be heard by my passengers but nothing would interfere with me keeping both hands on the steering wheel.
I contemplated the manufacturer's own fixed handsfree system for my SonyEricsson T610, a unit ...
Advantages: Easy to use, easily hidden Disadvantages: compatibiltiy, microphone
When I bought this handsfree I already had a SonyEricsson handset so I thought it would be appropriate to buy the same brand of car kit. I am mostly pleased with the product though I have a small gripe with the micro phone in that I don't think it is powerful enoguh. I am told that I sometimes sound distant!!
It is dead simple to use - it has 5 buttons - it is also very discreet and can be intergrated with your car stereo so that the callers voice can come through the car speakers. You will need to buy a loom to do this (check SonyEricsson's website) and would strongly recommend you get a professional to install it.
Don't be led astray that it works fine with other brand of mobiles, I have tried with a Nokia and there are all sorts of compatibilty issues (for example it mutes the radio if you receive a text message!!) If you are ...
Advantages: solid doesn't feel plastic. Although "stubby" it has a certain elegance about it. Compact and a slight improvement on the 3650 Disadvantages: Be careful, its smooth exterior means you can have a tendancy to drop it! You just can't stop playing with it. Sometimes it hangs...
of the plus points. being able to incorporate memory cards up to 256 / 512 mb. When you take a look at the SonyEricssonP800 / P900 it runs away with the trophy.
For those of you who are buying your first "smartphone" and are looking for a wide extent of features - this model isn't the best out there although I have one and I will be keeping it for the time being if you are willing to wait a bit longer there will be much better phones out there shortly at around the same price.
Just a word of warning aswell, some of the new bluetooth headsets don't work properly with the Nokia 6600. ...
