I first saw this phone back in December time and loved the look of it, yes, granted it is bigger than most phones these day’s, however, this has a few more little gems on it than most.
I am on O2 online, when I first inquired about it, I was quoted £349.00 to upgrade, (£79.99 for a new account), so in so many words I told them to jump, and decided to cancel my contract and look elsewhere. Only a week later, O2 rang me and offered the phone to me for free as my monthly bill has always been quite high. I took them up on the offer and upgraded with the new 12 month contract, and the all important same number.
The S700i has recently gone down in price to £39.99 in most places, however, it still remains in the shops, (again most, not all) £79.99 for an upgrade, so do some haggling! O2 online however, does offer a lot more than most shops, 200 X-network minutes anytime, 500 text messages or 125 media messages, (these are connected, so u can use them which way you like, its just because media messages cost more to send), 500 WAP minutes all for £30.00 a month, and is just one of a good handful of tariffs.
It’s also important to let you know I had to wait 20 days for the arrival of my S700i because Sony had recalled loads of them due to some technical fault, (some handsets were unable to receive text messages), and however, this problem has now been rectified. Although there are some delays with shops getting them back into stock, Also the phone is only available on the O2 and Vodafone networks, I believe, if you pay a huge amount you can also get it on BT and if your lucky maybe on EBay or you can but them for around the £400 mark, maybe cheaper if you have a good look around.
So the S700i specifications;
The screen is 240 x 320 pixel, this is much larger than most and has many more benefits when taking pictures and filming, along with a colour LCD 262.144 screen. The sound is polyphonic and has a memory of 32 MB. It comes in Artic Silver, (if you like swapping covers you won’t be able to with this handset). The size is 107.5 x 49 x 24.5 mm, (or 4.23 x 1.93 x .96 inches). It weighs 137 grams. What also is quite unique with the phone is that it swivels rather than flips, having a kind of ball-joint, (see the pictures).
***WHAT’S IN THE BOX***

~*~‘SAR’ INFORMATION ON THE SONY S700I;~*~
This information has been copied by me, from a web site. I thought it would be of importance as I am recommending the product, so you should also be aware of the health risks if any!
Radio wave exposure and Specific Absorption Rate, (SAR) Information.
This mobile phone model S700i has been designed to comply with applicable safety requirements for exposure to radio waves. These requirements are based on scientific guidelines that include safety margins designed to assure the safety of all persons, regardless of age and health.
The radio exposure guidelines employ a unit of measurement known as the Specific Absorption Rate, or SAR. Tests for SAR are conducted using standardized methods with the phone transmitting at its highest certified power level in all used frequency bands.
While there may be differences between SAR levels of various phone models, they are all designed to meet the relevant guidelines for exposure to radio waves.
SAR data information for residents in countries that have adopted the SAR limit recommended by the International Commission of Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection, (ICNIRP), which is 2 W/kg averaged over ten (10) gram of tissue.
The highest SAR value for this model phone tested by Sony Ericsson for use at the ear is 0.73 W/kg (10g).
~*~OPINION~*~
Well where on Earth do I start? One thing is for sure, don’t believe what you feel and touch in the high street stores, the dummy phone they display to this model are nothing like the real thing. The touch to the S700i is amazingly smooth, sturdy feeling and a lot lighter than it looks, and you just don’t want to put the thing down!
It is a little frightening at first when you look at the instruction booklet, but what I would suggest is what I done, just have a look through the phone without the instruction manual at first and get a feel for the phone and its menus, its so much easier. The only thing I had to look up is how to save the MP3’s from the memory stick to the phone. Otherwise, it’s pretty simple to use all the basic functions.
The access to the menus is extremely quick and hassle free, the little navigation key on the phone is excellent, as are the keys themselves, they don’t stick, nor do they need to be pushed hard, they are well spaced also making text messaging very easy. Moving between menus is very smooth and slick, and the colours on the screen are totally awesome!
I was amazed also, the amount of things you can do without opening the phone itself. Access all the menus, make phone calls, read your text messages, shoot videos, and take your pictures, just superb! The five keys on the front allow you to do so much; also at the side of the phone are the volume controls, camera button and a brilliant keys lock button. The infrared port and the memory stick can also be found on the side.
The media player is excellent also, MP3’s either on the phone already or downloaded are crystal clear, the pictures are as good as pretty much any digital camera, (honest), and the video is clear as you would want it, with a super digital zoom that is very, very smooth in zooming in and panning out. Your able to record plenty of footage, (depending on what you have on your memory stick), also a great little spot light for in the dark is also built in. Whilst taking a picture or video, it will give you many features like picture effects, night vision just to name two out of a large handful.
To sum up, I would recommend this to anyone who wants a little bit of class in the mobile phone they have, (its got that), who want a great camera, (its got that), video, MP3 and Radio, (its got that), and of course, to be user friendly, (its that too). Plus hundreds of other little, (and big), features, and its fun too!!
The world of mobile phones is an ever-changing one - just think, a couple of years ago the Nokia 3510i was a top of the range handset (I should know - I took a contract out to get one), nowadays though if a new handset is released without a Video Camera, a decent Internet connection and an F.M. radio then there's a strong possibility that it won't sell well at all, thankfully the Sony-Ericsson S700i has all that, and then some.
** Phone Features ... ...features, I'm going to give you a list of the features and then afterwards a piece on each one as there's just too many to write a single paragraph on, so here goes:

Advantages: Stylish looks, features, navigation Disadvantages: locked to network
...been a big fan of Sony Ericsson phones ever since I had a T68i and hated everything about it - it was too small, the joystick kept dialling people, the colours were poor, etc, etc
However, when I saw the S700i, I just had to take a closer look.
It was the unique, stylish look of the phone which attracted me at first, followed by the impressive large, colourful screen.
The swivel mechanism may put off some people but I know somebody who works for ... ...It has a 32mb sony Memory Stick which you can remove from the phone and plug directly into your PC (if you have the right port). Transferring images and files is a simple drag and drop affair as with any windows based pc application.
You can use the supplied software but it's just as easy to drag and drop.
It has Bluetooth which is the most underrated software currently around. You can send pictures or videos direct to other bluetooth capable phones ...

Advantages: Wonderful phone, very smart, lots of features, amazing screen Disadvantages: None that I can think of
I just got this phone yesterday, and it is wonderful. My greatest praise goes to it's screen - the colours are so bright and fantastic quality, and it comes with the most beautiful images. My wallpaper is currently a digital butterfly in turquose colours that glows - simply beautiful. My next piece of praise simply HAS to go to the buttons. Sounds odd, I know, but the number buttons on this phone are simply outstanding. They were my number one concern ... ...S700i that I had seen they resembled those of the first ever mobile phones - small, hard, oval and black. However, when it arrived yesterday all these fears were simply washed away. The buttons are soft-touch, so texting does not cause sore fingers and if you look at them carefully you will see that they are actually shimmery. Very modern looking indeed. A lot of people have said that the phone is very large, but I urge you not to let this put you ...

...24.5 mm (taken from the sony ericsson website). Which is rather large compared to similar phones. However, the design concept that Sonyericsson had in mind whilst developing this phone was to combine the features of a digital camera and mobile phone. The large size does give the phone the feel of a digital camera when it is held on its side.

There is a slight lag time between the shutter sound and the actual taking of the photo but once done the photo is shown brilliantly on the phone's large 260k colour screen. I find the camera is easy to use via the pressing of the camera button located on the side, ...

Advantages: Excellent camera, easy to use, feature packed Disadvantages: None that I can think of
I purchased this phone to replace my SonyEricssonS700i, The K750iI have to say beats the S700i hands down, there is only one thing that was better on the S700i to the K750i and that is the screen as the S700i screen was bigger, but then again the S700i is a lot more expensive but the sharpness and brightness are both equal.
I will start first of all with the camera, this phone has a 2 megapixel camera on it, this is a hell of a lot better than the S700i camera even though there is only 0.7 megapixel between them, I always found that was the thing that let the S700i down was its camera I use to find it a bit crap to be honest. The camera on the K750i is a lot better, fair enough it won't be able to compete with a standalone digital camera but its detail and colour reproduction are excellent, I would go as far to say its the best ive ...
Advantages: Light, smart and packed full of features including Walkman MP3 Disadvantages: Comes with a limited amount of loaded ringtones.
This is without a doubt the best phone I have used. The Walkman MP3 player is superb with its 512 mb memory card inluded. The quality of the pictures taken with the 2 megapixel camera are the best I have seen from a phone camera and it is so easy to use. Whilst the camera is packed with features, the menu system and external buttons make using the features simple. I used Nokia phones for a long time then Samsung with s E700. I also used a SonyEricsson T610 which was also an OK phone. Having used the W800, I have become totally dedicated to SonyEricsson phones. If you want a phone with market leading camera and Walkman MP3 player, do your self a favour and get the W800 ...
Advantages: Conservative and elegant, Brilliant 262k colour display, Bluetooth, Mp3 Player, Memory capacity, Price Disadvantages: No memory card, Mp3 player doesnt play in background, Playing sound when entering java menu
also endure this racket.
The D500 is the first samsung phone to support bluetooth. And it is easy to transfer files onto and away from your phone. Easy studio is the best program to use and may come with your phone or you can download it from samsungs website.
The D500 defiately has some drawbacks but what phone doesnt? All that is left to say is that samsung have provided us with another pretty good mobile. It looks, works and survies the side of the sofa brilliantly. Samsung D500 is in the same class as Nokia 6230, SonyEricssonS700i and K700i, i.e. in the top class
The samsung D500 can be undoubtadly bought in a store near you and is in the reigion of 150-200 as far as i have seen, although with christmas approaching offers will emerge!
Happy calling! ...
