WHAT I LIKE:
Appearance, camera and the MP3 player,
WHAT I DISLIKE:
As stylish as the phone looks – the shiny black always gets fingerprints on it and needs to be continually cleaned.
Always a fan of Ericsson phones - i just had to tell you about my new V800!
COST:
I received this as a gift so I didn’t have to pay, but this 3g phone is available on the Vodafone network. Cost depends on the length of contract and price plan you choose, but £50-£250 for the handset is the current price.
Of course the phone can be unlocked to accommodate different networks.
FROM THE OUTSIDE:
The phone has a clamshell design, with a very retro type look. It is an elegant shiny black, which just adds to the appeal. The phone measures 102 x 48 x 23 mm and weighs 128 grams. It’s not as small as I would have liked, but I would not describe it as bulky, you have to remember that it is a 3G phone and is capable of video calling. Compared to other phones that support the same services, it is quite sleek.
There is a smaller COLOUR screen on the top of the phone that displays the caller id and the picture associated with that person. Much better than having to open up the phone to find out who is calling you!
There are two buttons on the right of the phone, which act as the shortcut keys for the camera and the flash.
The two buttons on the left side of the phone are the volume buttons.
Towards the bottom of the phone there is a space to connect the charger, headphone socket and also a USB port.
FROM THE INSIDE:
You open up the phone to find a huge 262K LCD screen on the top half, which measures approx 35 x 47 mm. The images on the screen are crystal clear in full colour. These are THE sharpest I have seen on any phone.
Between the two halves of the phone is the rotating lens. You twist it to face yourself whilst video calling and twist to face away from you when taking photographs. Very 007!
On the bottom half of the phone there are the 12 standard keys, 3 quick keys (for media player, video calling and menu). There are 4 navigation keys to get through the menu (which is extremely user-friendly).
MAKING CALLS:
After all this is what you want the phone for! Clear sound quality and good coverage on my network.
TAKING PHOTOS:
The camera is a superb 1.3 Mega pixel digital camera. There is an integrated flash that helps take better pictures in low light conditions. There is also a zoom feature. There is also an option to record a 12 second video clip too. Photos can be downloaded onto your computer or can be sent via Bluetooth or IR.
VIDEO CALLING:
Not tried this out too much – only one of my friends has a videophone! Good quality, and there is not much of a delay.
MP3 PLAYER AND SOUND:
There is an external speaker with exceptional sound quality (well, for a phone). The MP3 player can play tunes thorough the speaker or through the supplied Sony headphones. You have the option of creating your own playlists - A really good idea!
GAMES:
Java 3D engine – very good for games apparently.
CONNECTIVITY:
Has Bluetooth, infrared and USB port.
POLYPHONIC RINGTONES
OTHER FEATURES:
Long SMS, MMS, instant messaging and e-mail. The phone also has all other standard applications such as calendar, calculator etc.
CONTENT SERVICES ON VODAFONE:
Well, there is so much that you can do – I think this should be a different review. But briefly, you can download music (expensive at £1.50 a track), download video trailers for current movies, get ringtones and polytones, play games, get access to news and weather, find out where your nearest café, club, cashpoint, petrol station etc are, use the AA routeplanner – I could just go on and on and I haven’t even used it that much yet. The 3G coverage on this network is fantastic and much more extensive than they have advertised.
LI-ION BATTERY LIFE: Standby: up to 280 hours Talk time: up to 180 mins Video call: up to 150 mins
I do find it is a little less than this; I do need to charge my phone about every other day.
MEMORY:
The phone comes with a 32MB Sony Memory Stick Duo, and supports Memory Stick PRO Duo up to 1GB, which is ample space for music, ring tones, videos and games.
WHAT I LIKE:
Appearance, camera and the MP3 player,
WHAT I DISLIKE:
As stylish as the phone looks – the shiny black always gets fingerprints on it and needs to be continually cleaned.
However, this is just a small flaw and the deign and features make up for it. I would happily recommend this phone to anyone!
Advantages: Design of it Disadvantages: No MP3 ringtones
...the "somewhat useful" rating. The DRM Packager had been barred from being downloaded from Sony Ericsson, perhaps at the insistance of Vodafone, but I would a cope of it at www.cheaters-heaven.com. And indeed it does allow you to encode the mp3s and they can be then used as ring tones. ...

Advantages: Loads of features, amazing screen, 1.3 MP camera, great sound quality Disadvantages: Not enough 3G users in the UK, battery life
Design
The new Sony Ericsson phone is the next in line of clam shell phones and looks and feels a lot like its predecessor, the Z1010. The black case makes it look quite classy. The camera is located in the top part of the phone (or in the middle when the phone is open) and can be rotated to either face the person holding the phone (for self portraits or video calling) or face outwards to take pictures of others. It has side buttons for volume control ... ...to most menu solutions from Sony Ericsson) and is incredibly fast. The display is very sharp and at 256K colours handles photos and video playback very well. Overall
The battery life of this phone is probably it’s biggest let down, however for a video phone with such great amount of features I guess it’s not that bad. The phone lasted 3 full days of quite heavy use, including about 20 minutes of phone calls every day as well as text messaging and ...

Advantages: Video technology Media player Bluetooth Disadvantages: large even for a flip phone
The Sony Ericsson v800 is a versitlie flip phone with integrated swivel camera so that you can take self shots and pictures infront of you. The swivel camera also opperates as the video camera so that using the 3g advanced technology enables you to make and recieve video calls. Media player enables you to download music direct to your phone and using your head set you can turn it into a mini mp3 player however the more songs and graphics you have ... ...and videos you can put on your phone. Seperate memory cards can be bought but how often do you want to switch your cards over for different features. The main issue with this phone is that even though it is a flip phone its still quite large its as big as some none flip phones. ...

Reviews which might be of interest for "Sony Ericsson V800"
I had had my Nokia 3650 for nearly 3 years and was desperate to buy an up-to-date mobile.
The 3650 had great software, so I needed a phone that would do a lot of things but also have some newer features. The main 'new' feature I had my eye on was MP3 ringstones that I could make myself rather than fork out cash on a ringtone website etc.
The other thing I wanted was a small and cute phone. I was fed up with 'bricks' and unstylish phones.
I looked at various clam phones, including Motorola, but decided on trying the Samsung D500 first.
I kept it.
Why?
Its a very dinky phone, and very stylish - i have the black version and its looks excellent. I had looked at the SonyEricssonV800 last year in black, but that in comparison - although it was black plastic too - didn't look as nice as this Samsung. It looked ...
