I have had this phone for about 6 months now, so I thought it would be a good idea to write a review letting anybody out there who is considering buying it- not too! This is my fourth Sony erricson phone; and the fourth one that has broken within weeks of me owning it. Why, you may ask do I keep buying phones from the brand if the wares are of a poor quality, beats me but I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the fact that they always make their phones so aesthetically pleasing, they look good, and sound very technologically sophisticated, as well as most models having extremely 'unique' gimmicky features to them.
This clam shell model is about as gimmicky as you can get, and yes I was sucked in by that! There is an mp3 player function on the phone, and on the front of the casing, is a strange braille style set of raised bumps (which are incredibly useful apparently...) as you can activate and play, pause or skip your tracks- without having to open the phone up;simply using it like a small mp3 player. I can see the appeal of this strange design feature its quite funky; but the pure fact of the matter is - it is the most impractical feature of any phone I have ever seen. The amount of times my phone has started blaring music (out of the in built speaker automatically) , simply because I had brushed the outside of the phone in my pocket has caused more than a few awkward moments in meetings, at work and in the shops! - Very aggravating..... There is a lock feature for these keys on the front panel, but it is on the back of the phone, also easy to knock without realising if in a handbag or pocket loose.
It is a nice phone to look at, and has its positive qualities as well as negative; . It has all the functions you could possibly want and more for a phone in this price bracket- a camera of mid quality, mp3 player, removable memory card, and blue tooth connectivity. It also has probably the most popular feature of the Sony erricson Walkman range, a nice loud speaker for playing your music out of (if you like that sort of thing!). The color is deep purple, with a lovely two tone finish to it, which would appeal to any fashion conscious teens out there; especially as it comes with matching colored headphones!
My overall opinion is that this is a good, if perhaps slightly overpriced phone for teen girls; but that it feels a little like a phone that is slightly too overladen with unnecessary functions, when the focus of the product manufacturers should be to make sure the phone is reliable and technologically sound, if targeting a younger market. I use my phone regularly for work on a daily basis, and found it to loose signal frequently, as well as the system freezing a few times, error messages, plus the phone simply turning off, even when it has full charge. I have seen these little technical blips frequently in all of the sony erricson phones i have owned and wonder if this is a more than a coincidence or if I simply have terrible luck with technology.... Im incline to agree with the first theory...
