Sony Ericsson W600i is considered to be a fantastic mobile phone suitable for those who require something exciting and reliable. Although is one of the many Walkman phones available at the market right now it should be a 'piece of art' in the market compared to its competitors. i personally own this phone for a month now, and I can clearly see why the Walkman phone sales are in such high rates since they were first introduced in the market. In the very very beginning I was a bit skeptical about this purchasing decision but right after I experienced the W600i at first hand it was straight forward that this phone could easily cover any needs I had.

This phone even though it has been criticized for the cheap plastic appearance (which some of you find it to be true), it is a mobile 'tool' for everyone who enjoys owning a trendy music phone.

SPEAKERS…The very first impression I had after doing my research for this particular mobile phone (internet-reading reviews-advising retailers), I expected to see, really simply a quite big and ordinary gadget. After the first trial I had I decided to buy it and try it. As soon as I got home I had already regretted the decision I made a few hours ago. But when I firstly opened the box I was so surprised to find a trendy, lightweight and fashionable phone that could comfortably fit in every pocket I had on my clothing and most importantly in my hand palm. Ok now I am getting a little boring expressing all my emotions at that time, but for a good reason-sometimes what you expect is totally different from reality!

There are definitely lots of elements to like about the W600i.firstly the 262K color display. It is so sharp and gives you the feeling of an animation environment. The call quality is tremendous, one of the most vital characteristics a new phone must have, which in my opinion is superior to most phones I owned or used. Regarding the speakerphone is actually one of the best performing components of the W600i. a simple example I could demonstrate is that while watching football on TV and relaxing in my couch I had a normal quality conversation while my phone was 'sitting' on the table about 3meters away from me(the TV was loud ).

MUSIC…. The phone demonstrates some very very good music potential and capabilities. It is a walkman phone after all. In some other reviews I read about this phone many argue that the quality of music is equal of those of an IPOD, or at least as close as possible, but I will try to be a bit more realistic and comment that it probably has the best quality of sound among its competitors but not equal to those of an IPOD. You should regard the fact that mobile phones are multifunctional tools and relatively a bit new in the music area. even though it is not advertised purely as a music gadget..believe me it has much better capabilities many of the existing MP3 players in the market. BUT Sony Ericsson added something to that phone that Apple didn't on the Ipod-a built-in FM radio. There is an includes headphone cord which doubles as an antenna, which allows great sound quality. You can also play the music without the headphones even though the volume gets so loud you will actually be surprised. The speakers are well positioned on the phone, I could say strategically positioned for the best possible performance on quality and volume. The speakers are on the front, side and back and you feel like having a music little box in your palm. An extra offered by Sony Ericsson is an FM transmitter which allows you to listen through a nearby radio.

MUSIC SOFTWARE…Even though there are some other walkman phones on the market Sony Ericsson tried and achieved to offer to a very demanding segment the opportunity to taste good quality music on the move. The provided software is user-friendly and exciting. As soon as the user installs the drivers from the CD he/she can simply open the Disc2Phone program and drag&drop any music files onto the phone. The whole process is simple to a first time user and can easily (anyone) have a full list of MP3s on his phone. The Bluetooth technology offered by the phone can also allow you to share/send songs with someone who uses the same features.

The only skepticism I developed while I was exploring the music talents of the W600i was the doubt I had regarding the functionality of the gadget while playing music. I was wrong again. The W600i maintains full control and functionality while playing your favorite soundtracks. It has been designed of course to stop the music while you are taking a call and resuming it as soon as you finish the call. HOW GREAT CAN THIS BE?

PICTURE PERFECTION…Beyond music the W600i has to offer the standardized set of phone features such as a calculator, an alarm clock, world clock and stopwatch. But another feature that places the phone in the top is the 3-D gaming. Gamers can now enjoy their favorites games in landscape mode giving you a wider screen and the ability to keep the phone in an horizontally position much like..let's say as a PSP gaming console. The gaming experience gets even better and comfortable due to the two main gaming buttons placed on the right side.

Moving on from the games you will find the 1.3 Megapixel camera to be one of the best in the market, with abilities that can zoom up to 4x using digital zoom, a bright light for dim environments and 256 megabytes of memory card. The picture quality is good and the camera can be hold horizontally whilst taking photos. A drawback I found is that the video clips are not as sharp as the still photo function which might make it undesirable for the video lovers.

The W600i has a few more annoyances rather than disadvantages, however. You can't play the radio while charging the phone because it requires the headset to be plugged in (the headphones use the same jack as the charger).

The only real downside can be found to the fact of the lack of an expandable memory slot which makes it capable of storing only about 70 songs. Though that's not a viable replacement for a traditional MP3 player on a long road trip, I still found it nice not having to use my iPod on a short walk around the corner.

FINALLY…Although there are a lot of features you're going to love about this phone, there are also some considerable complaints about it, which some find my fair share even though I am a proud owner. One of these complaints regard the fact that even though the calling feature works whether the device is open or closed I found it pretty uncomfortable to talk in either of those positions.

Also, the color scheme of the phone (bright orange and silver) reminds me of something I could never imagine buying. Depending on your taste, the alternate blue or white faceplates could help solve that problem. In addition, the number pad is a bit small and congested. I found myself accidentally pushing the wrong button several times when dialing. And finally, at £190, the price is a bit high.

Even though it has those downsides as every other phone the W600i is a steal for new customers looking to get one of the trendiest MP3 player-cell phone combinations on the market. It marks the beginning of an era when stand-alone gadgets will be replaced by all-in-ones.
