I've generally had a good experience with Sony Ericsson phones (the exception being the p990i) and this one was no different. Let me start by telling you a bit about the phone itself: The w880i is a slim and sleek phone (9.4 mm thin) with a stainless casing; or if you prefer, its also available in black & orange. Features of the Sony Ericsson W880i include: 3G video calling 2 megapixel camera with 2.5x digital zoom Video camera Media player (MP3 / AAC) Sound recorder Messaging: SMS, MMS, email Personal organiser functions 3D Java games GPRS, UMTS (384 kb/s) Web browser Memory: 16 Mbytes plus Memory Stick Micro support Connectivity: Bluetooth, USB mass storage, Fast Port & Many More...
The W880i is a stunning phone and is a contender for the best Walkman phone so far. It's the thinnest and lightest 3G phone released, yet it's an incredibly well featured music phone. The heart and soul of the w880i is its music feature ---- The player is excellent in terms of its quality. It can be accessed by a single click, and you can play, rewind, fast forward, equalise, shuffle tracks and create playlists. There are some additional features, such as TrackID - This can help you find a song that you might hear on the radio The phone comes with a 1 Gbyte memory card, this means you have plenty of space to store your songs (I've currently got about 150 tracks on mine & theres still room for more)
The 2 megapixel camera is average and is not as good as some camera phones. Overall in a batch of 10 photos, you can keep about half of them - which isnt bad. Night time and indoors shots show a fair amount of noise, but I found this can be reduced with the camera's night mode feature and out door pictures tend to be alot better. The camera has two quality settings, fine and normal, but there's not much to choose between them. Personally, I think the camera could have been better if it had a flash and an auto focus feature but it's not made for high-end photography and is fine for casual use.
The battery life is good, I use the phone normally, 60 min. call, 10 - 20 sms, 30 min music & I use the web sometimes and I still get 3 to 4 days out of it!!! In comparision to the other phones I've used - I was impressed
You can easily synchronise and transfer files rapidly with the Fast port connector and music transfer software or go wireless with Bluetooth. The phone also comes with 16 Mbytes of internal memory & theres also loads of expandable memory for storing more songs, images and videos as the phone comes with a 1GB Memory Stick Micro M2 card. The call quality's not all bad either - its loud and clear. The signal strength bar oscillates up and down a bit, but it doesnt affect the handset's ability to make and take calls
However it misses a couple of features:
Radio, this may be a problem for some but when you have room for 250 songs on the phone, you wont realise its not there
Camera flash
Screen is a bit smaller than other Sony Erricsons (1.8 inches) but, the slightly smaller screen has advantages in weight and power consumption and is worth comprimising over Also, the keypad may be a bit fiddly for some users - the buttons are a bit small. I read reviews on the w880i before purchasing it and in general - guys found it a little harder to type with - However, I think its fine and don't have a problem using it
Overall, the phone is excellent, looks sleek and stylish and has many features to keep you busy. I would definately recommend it because there are more positive aspects than negative..so dont miss out :-) So where should you look when deciding where to buy?? There are some good offers at Dialaphone (half-price line rental for 11 months or with a free Nintendo DS) The W880i has just recently become available on Pay As You Go - the Carphone Warehouse currently have it for just £199.95 on O2...so like i said -- Dont miss out
