As my old contract was up, I decided to up grade my phone. I wanted something that was thin and light so after looking at all phones available I decided to get the Sony Ericsson W880i.
It is only 9.4mm in thickness so fits easily into my small handbag without taking up much room and only weighs 71grams.
It has a stainless steal coating that makes it look very stylish. It comes in two colours black and orange, black at the front and orange on the back, or silver and black, black at the back and silver at the front, this is the one I have.
To look at the phone head on you have a screen which is 1.8 inch with the camera lens just above the screen. The screen provides us with up to 262,144 colours on a high resolution display.
Below the screen are all the buttons, no good for big chunky fingers.
On one side of the phone you have a small orange button at the top, this takes
you straight in the walkman part of the phone., at the bottom of the phone you have the slot where your memory card is inserted and also the place where you can either charge your phone or connect to the computer using the UBS cable.
On the other side of the phone at the top, you have your volume control, which you can either push up or down to increase or decrease the volume, this can be used for the walkman or the volume of the other person talking on the phone. This is also the zoom of 2.5 button for the camera/video. At the bottom is a small button, which takes you straight into camera mode. Once in camera mode this button is, also the one you press you take the picture.
Finding your way around the phone, I found quite easy once on the main menu page, all sections are laid out here,
Calls - Here you can see whom you have called, calls you have received and calls that you have missed.
Organizer - This section is where you can find your alarm settings, calculator, timer, stopwatch etc.
Settings - Here you can change profiles, time and date, ring tones and wallpapers to really make the phone your own.
Contacts - All the contacts you have in your phone and this is where you can add more contacts.
File Manager - This section is where all you pictures, videos, themes and tunes are stored either on your phone or memory card.
Camera - To take pictures or videos.
Messaging - To send any sort of message.
Walkman - You can here all the music that is stored onto your walkman.
Entertainment - This part is where your Java games are stored along with the video DJ, Music DJ this is where you can make up your own tunes.
Internet - This is where you can access the internet from your phone.
The buttons on the front of the phone are quite small so it's easy to press a different one by mistake but they are quite flat against the phone.
This is the second Sony Ericsson phone I have had and they have made huge improvements to this one compared to the last one I had, for one they have got rid of the Joy Stick button which I hated because after while it stopped working.
The sound of the walkman is of high quality, I found downloading music to the phone easy, it comes with a USB cable and a CD which you download onto your computer and this is where you can put the music onto your phone. It comes with a set of headphones so now your phone can be used as a portable MP3. It can store up to 900 tracks.
The camera is easy to use, it is a standard 2 mega pixels which has a zoom lens, 240 x 320 pixels, you can play with the picture you have taken by either adding frames, changing the effects of the picture to black and white etc, you can add funny clip art images to your picture, and even join several pictures together. The overall quality of pictures are good and they come out very clear. It does not have a flash so day light pictures only which is a bit of a shame, it also does not have auto focus.
It is a 3G phone so making video calls can be fun as long as the other person has a 3G phone as well.
The overall memory on the phone is 14MB on the phone and an extra 1 GB on the memory card, so ample of storage space.
~ My Verdict ~
I do like this phone it is very sleek and stylish, and even though it's not a flip phone as long as you put the key lock on you do not make accidental calls. I am more then pleased with the camera/video all the ones I have taken have come out very well (see below)
I love the walkman the sound quality is very high it is a little bit tinny but through the headphones, it's even better. I found it to be very clear.
The Battery I have found to be superb once fully charged it lasts for days even when playing games and using the walkman. Talk time is 6 hours 30 minutes and standby time is 425 hours, video call time 1hr 30 min.
Using the text part of it, messaging is very easy to use and you can use next word prediction which makes it even easier.
The whole lay out of the phone is excellent apart from one feature, it has a small button on the front with an internet symbol on it and I have on quite a few occasions pressed it by mistake and connected to the internet which I do find quite annoying.
I like the way you can really make the phone your own, with loads of ring tones including polyphonic, wallpapers and themes to choose from that are already on the phone, but then you have so many free that you can download from the internet.
The instruction booklet that comes which the phone is very useful it guides you through every aspect of the phone.
~ Cost ~
As I am contract it was free but to buy just the phone will cost between £199.99 - £239.00.
So overall, I would give it a 8/10
I would recommend this phone.
Thank you very much for reading.
