I previously had the W810i model which I loved and so when this upgrade came out I thought I would go for it. It doesn't really do anything that different from the previous version but just has a new look mainly.

It is a slider phone so you slide the screen up to expose the buttons. This is a good feature as it means that you do not accidentally call people when it's in your pocket. You can set the phone so that when you receive a call you just slide it up and it answers automatically or you can choose to press the call button to receive the call if you prefer.

The speaker is very clear and you have no problems hearing the person you are talking to. The reception is pretty good although every now and then it does show no reception when you're in a perfectly good area.

Making calls is easy too. Rather than going into your address book to look up a name and number you can just hold down the button with the letter of the name you are looking for and it goes to the first name in your address book beginning with the that letter. For example if you were looking for John Smith you would hold down the 5 button (JKL) and it would jump to the first J in the address book which is a time saver when you have loads of contacts in your address book.

It has bluetooth which you would expect and has a very good range on it. I can always find loads of people on mine where as my wife in the same location will only pick up my phones name on her bluetooth on her mobile.

This phone is part of the walkman range and comes with a 1gb memory card so you can store plenty of tunes on it. You can also set your songs as the ringtone. The earphones that come with the phone are not great unfortunately. They are not very comfortable and fall straight out of your ears.

The battery life is pretty good and lasts me a week although I mainly use my phone for texting rather than calling.

The camera on the phone is only a 2 mega pixel as this phone is all about the walkman part but it's still a really good camera and takes excellent pictures. You can play around with the pictures you take and add effects to them and you can even do slideshows with music to show off your pictures.

Now to the bad part. The phone randomly switches itself off. You will feel it vibrate in your pocket and you think you have a text message but when you look at the screen it is off. Sometimes it comes back on automatically and sometimes you have to turn it back on. Sometimes it will not turn back on so you have to take the battery out and back in and then it will turn on.

This becomes very tedious as it's not like it happens every now and then, It happens a few times a day.

So why didn't I return the phone when I got it? Well I spoke to a few other people that had the same phone and it turns out that they had the same problems. Some have returned the phone but have the same problems with the replacement. Thankfully my contract is nearly up so I can get a new phone soon!!

If you don't mind putting up with the phone turning itself off a few times every day then I would recommend it because as a phone it is really good.

I have the same model and my phone does the exact same thing. I'd say about 5 or 6 times a day it will turn itself off then back on again. I thought it might have something to do with the memory or too many messages in my inbox so i deleted quite a few but it still carrys on doing it. Nice phone though, Just has a mind of it's own!

An interesting review. I have an 810i & like it. This does not really appeal and is no good if it keeps turning off by itself. Martin.

No matter how good a phone is otherwise, I wouldn't want to have one that keeeps turning itself off, so thanks for the heads-up! Good review.
