Foreword Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 is truly an excellent smartphone that offers a lot of cool features and stilysh design. According to the price range, we can see that this is a luxury, high-end class smartphone. Being the Sony Ericsson’s first smartphone that using Windows Mobile as it’s operating system, Xperia held a great expectation from the company to be a new market leader. Lots of features, customizeable interactive panel menu, stylish design are only several great point of innovations that Xperia can offer. I will try my best to review it for you guys. Here we go…
First Impression : Design. This smartphone using a slide-out style with solid metal polished for it’s whole body, makes it really cool and elegant. Xperia available in silver & black color,which truly represent an elegance. The display screen is one the most attractive feature. 3-inches touchscreen display at 800x600 pixel resolution that can displays up to 65,536 colors. The TFT touchscreen works really good with fast response. With such a good technologies, no doubt that Xperia can display any text and images in a very high quality. I’m personally really satisfied with the image quality. But sometimes it will be tricky to click an item with finger because it is too small sized, specially in the corner of the screen. The stylus pen that sitting on the left top side of the phone is the best solution for this case.
Another attractive feature is a high level of interactive menu customization. Xperia uses a advance level customizeable panel that can be
personalized as you wish depend on the situation where you are or what purpose do you need from Xperia. Sony Ericsson gives seven standard panels that you can choose. If you don’t like all the standard panel, you can download another panel from various distributors through the company’s official website. Even though I found only several panels that useful for me, but a lot of choice is the positive point for personal customization. The company has created a really good innovation that should be appreciated with high regard.
Below the display screen, there are several buttons such as two soft keys, a phone call and end call buttons, an ok button, an Xpanel button. There is an optical navigation key with a center select button. You can also push the the edge of the navigation key so it can be operated as more conventional 4-way navigation keys.
When you slide the display screen to the right, you will find the QWERTY keyboard that easy to use. The screen orientation will automatically change from portrait to landscape when you open the keyboard. The company provides a really good ergonomic keyboard and feel comfort to pressed. There’s enough space between the buttons so there will be no problem while typing a text. Somehow the slight curve between the display screen and the keyboard provides a better viewing angle so the screen will be looked nicer. Another excellent innovation from Sony Ericsson.
You can find a mini USB port in the left side of the body for charger and data cable. There is also a 3,5 mm jack audio port for the headset jack. Sony Ericsson Xperia only contains around 512MB capacity. But it can be expanded with Micro SD supports up to 16 GB. Yes, Micro SD slot, not the company’s own memory stick (M2). So it will be more compatible with various product from another company. This smartphone came with SanDisk MicroSDHC with 4 GB capacity (Bundle maybe different in each country). You can find the memory slot in the left side of the body. You can insert or remove the flash memory without turn off the phone but it will be a little bit tricky to do that at first.
Get deeper and longer : Sony Ericsson Xperia using Windows Mobile 6.1. Fortunately the company installed a proper hardwares that meet the operating system requirements. Thanks to Qualcomm 7200 A 528 MHz processor and 256 MB RAM that ensure the applications running smoothly. Xperia is supporting GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/800/1800/1900 Network and UMTS/HSDPA 900/1900/2100. The internet performace is great. Even though depends on the network services in each area, but overall i’m satisfied with the Wi-Fi performance. The camera is also awesome. 3.2 megapixel camera with Sony Ericsson high quality camera features like autofocus, flash, digital zoom, which let you take a very high detailed photo image and capturing video in VGA quality with ulimited duration (depends on the amount of free space of the storage). You can use the camera button, located in the right side of the body, or the select button in the center of the front panel alternatively. An important moment will be recorded easily with this cool smartphone.
The speaker located at the bottom side of the phone. It offers an average normal rate volume for the common listener. When you plug in the headset, you will be entertained by a high quality sound. The sound and voice is so clean, 100% without noise. So pure. Another added point to this product. You can also hear your favourite Radio station with ease.
There are also additional applications and features that I find might be useful. Say it, GPS with reliable accuration rate. This GPS supported by QuickGPS and Google Maps. Xperia supports Bluetooth technology with A2DP. Also there are Adobe Reader LE, Comm Manager, Opera Browser, Java, Windows Media Player Mobile, Windows Live, Clear Storage, Encryption, Illumination, Microphone AGC, and two games (Astraware Sudoko & Bejeweled 2). There are several standard applications and features that you will find in Xperia (Maybe different in each countries, you can refer to Sony Ericsson official website for complete spesification : www.sonyericsson.com/x1). I assure you that you will be excited with the overall standard features that provided by the company.
Xperia equipped with a good performance battery. In average, Xperia can stay on up to maximum 2 days with lot of activities. Say it , call, messaging, browsing, listen to the music, taking pictures with the camera, but note that all of them was done in the normal period of time. When you use it above the normal period, the battery will drain heavily. So use it wisely. But overall the battery performance has already great.
Finally, it comes to conclusion Just as I say, nobody’s perfect. I have several cons about Xperia : - Touchscreen display performance without the stylus is not so perfect. - Media player using a very standar equalizer. And I am little bit disappointed with the maximum level of volume that the phone can perform. But this is not the Walkman series phone, so it won’t be a problem. - The frontpanel buttons sometimes felt hard to pressed. - The number keys in the QWERTY keyboard will be tricky in the first time. But when you get used to it, it wion’t be a problem. - When you need more detailed maps for the GPS you have to buy from the third party vendors.
Overall, I really recommend Sony Ericsson Xperia X1. Despite my cons, Xperia still an excellent and elegant plus powerfull smartphone in my opinion so far. Xperia can provide almost all the purpose of a person could ask from a smartphone. You don’t have to buy several phones to fulfill your needs because Xperia can provide them all in one easy-to-use smartphone. With all the positives, what else can you Xpect from Sony Ericsson Xperia X1….?
…. Maybe a lower price, little bit expensive….
