The new Sony Walkmanw810i is a new model in the w800 range, and has numerous changes from its previous model - the w800i. The changes are clear in the design of the new phone, as well as functionality and the software driving the machine.
To start with, the aesthetics have been greatly improved - in my opinion - as the black is sleek with the cool orange and silver buttons on either side makes it really eye-catching.
A major change is the loss of the joy-stick feel with the navigation system, and instead created a D-pad which is pressable. Personally this is a great improvement, as they previous joy-stick nav was far too flimsy when trying to flip through photos/songs quickly.
The phone, although has many improvements, has one down fall, which is that it does not have a camera-cover. This may seem like an improvement - quicker photos, instant set up - but as a person without insurance and an 18 month contract, to think that the lens might be scratched by a key or something, is quite worrying.
The menu and software driving this phone is almost exactly the same as the previous w800i's software, but with minor differences. For example, once you send a text message, you now no longer have to wait for it to be sent to do another task, you simply see a small icon at the top showing that the text is being sent. Annoying thing, however is that the phone number from a text message cannot be added to your contact list.
Similary to the w800i, the w810i offers an MP3 Player, 2.0 Megapixel Camera, Radio, Organizer and obviously the phone facilty. The camera has many built-in features to enhance the photo - flash, nightvision, clip arts, macros, self tiner, time & date, etc.
The phone uses 'Memory Stick Pro Duo'. Mine came with 512 Megabytes with it, which is fairly good, but can be expanded to 4 Gigabytes if needs be for a relatively cheap price - find good deals off ebay!
MP3 function is very good, and the speakers that come with it are great add the Sony Mega Bass and you've got an amazing mp3 player!
Speakers are through 3 quite small holes and are okay, the sound is sufficent for phone calls, but for songs it isn't the best sound quality but is good enough to have a little rave with.
Battery life for the w810i is amazing to say the least. I have never run into the problem of running out of battery, one full charge and you're ready to last the entire night - mp3 player for the bus, phone calls during the night for arrangements, photos during the night to remember and lastly a few more songs on the journey home!
Overall I recommed this phone to anyone who's looking to get a new phone and wants to have a easy time navigating and that has everything one needs!

Advantages: Walkman name/quality, lots of features, PC lead and software is good. Disadvantages: Exposed screen and camera lens gets dirty and scratched.
