The Sony Erricson WalkmanW810i phone is amazing. Before owning this I had the rubbish Motorola L6, and upgrading so much was amazing. I had so much more to do on my phone now. You may see alot of people with it, that might show that it is so good. I bought my W810i from Carphone Warehouse back in January 2007, at £140, and it is still working perfectly with no faults.
This phone has some great features, which most phones fail to achieve. The high quality screen shows excellent photographs and videos, and puts other phones to shame. Even the stop watch and countdown timer which are normally useless features on other phones. On this phone, they are good fun to use. Clear picture and great quality sound, unlike my previous phone. The camera is 2.0 Megapixels, which is very good for a mobile phone. I think 2.0 Megapixels is great for me. I take alot of pictures, and the snaps come out fantastic when uploaded to the computer using the USB. In the camera settings, you can change colours and styles of your photographs. For example, have your photos made into
black and white. I do like playing around with these features, there are so many. The video camera is just as good as the camera. The playback quality on the phone is a little bit blury.
The look of the phone is sleek, and looks like a business phone. The W810i mobile which I bought, could either come in black or white. I chose the black because I do drop mobiles alot, but this phone is very good at hiding scratches. They go un-noticed. The phone has all the basic 1 - 0 numbers, including * and #. The keypad also included the top centre navigational button, used for navigating through menus etc. There is also the very useful "WalkMan" button. Pressing this button will open up into a whole new music experience. Especially from the previous phone I had. The music you have on the phone appears instantly, and you can find your favourite track by artist, track, album, year etc.
The phone feels good to hold, not to big and not too small. The phone is ust the right size and is not too thick. The phone has a plastic outer case, and does look very nice and attractive.
Using the SMS facility is easy, on most phones is the T9 Predictive text, or the normal letter texting. I prefer to use the normal letter texting as I am not good at mastering predictive text. The sending after writing your message could not be simpler. I like things simple and easy to use, and this phone did it. I finished my text, and it was easy to see what I had to do next.
Calling is simple. You can either call using a number from your phonebook - or you can type in a number. The volume can be adjusted to suit your needs, and find this is a good feature. On some phones, the ringing time is not long, but you can change this in settings, to how long while ringing it will switch to voicemail. The sound is of good quality, and sound is clear. The phone does have a hang up button but I like the way the phone will end a call if the other person has finished. The amount of stories I have heard about people leaving their phones on during a phone call.
The walkman (mp3 player) facilility is fantastic in my opinion. I love music, and I think this is quite similar to an iPod. I own an iPod and the way it is set out, they are very similar. You can pause, stop, fast forward, rewind, and there is an option too, to change the way the music comes out, such as Live.
Headphones came included with my handset. I did think I would need to buy the headphones seperatly, but I was suprised to see them in the box. I listen to music everyday, and these are a great help to me. The sound is just as great when playeing through the speaker. The headphones are not bulky, and very small. They would go un-noticed at work ;)
With this phone, is a 512mb memory card, which slots into the phone with ease. It goes into the left of the phone, and I find that having this supplied too in the box is just fantastic. Alot of great things have been packed into the box, which I did think I would have to buy seperatly. I use the 512MB card which was supplied, and think this is enough to store 100-150 songs. You can also store photographs, your camera pictures, and videos. I store alot of each on the memory stick, just as well as the phone memory. I have had up to 7 x 25 minute Simpsons episodes, and music and photos. This shows that this memory card does hold so much. Other memory cards can be bought too, such as 1GB, which is double 512MB, also 2GB and 4GB. These can be bought online, or in photo / mobile stores.
With such a great screen, the games which are played on this phone are magnificent. The colours and pictures of the games come out so well. You can download games or play games which other people can send via InfraRed, or Bluetooth.
The phone is able to play animated photographs, or pictures. (.gif) And again, because of the really good screen, the pictures come out very well. Animated or non-animated.
The battery on the phone lasts a long time, you are able to play music without the battery going down dramaticly. Other phones which friends have do this, and another reason why I like this phone. Being a music lover, using the phone for playing my music collection, doesn't run the battery down. I do use my phone a fair bit during the day, but the battery can last 2-3 days easilly, and ill not need charging for this time.
The phone has the very popular Bluetooth, which I use a fair bit, and find it is really easy to send friends and family photos, games, music, videos, files, etc. The speed of the average song sent via Bluetooth is around 60 seconds. This may depend on the recipients memory, or the type of mobile phone they have.
I think this phone is great. I find it weird how technology progresses, of what mobile phones will be like in the next year, or even in the next five years. This phone is great, I love it, jam packed with cool facilities as written above. I use it all the time, and if you do get one, I hope you enjoy it as much as I have. Smashing phone.
