This is the first phone that I ever purchased my self and must say that it was worth the 50 pounds that I purchased it for. The W810i is most certainly a phone worth having.
The first thing that you notice about this particular phone is the appearance. Whether of not you like the appearance is completely subjective. I personally think that the design was a step from the predecessor (mainly orange; a bit much). I like the fact that the design is a bit daring but it works, it’s completely black except for the buttons that make some of the phones main features stand out. By main features I mean the walkman and shortcuts.
The main feature depicted in most advertising was the Walkman feature. The phone, can indeed be used as an MP3 player. Upon using the installation software that comes free with the phone (Sony EricssonPC Suite), music can easily
be uploaded and played instantly. Provided with the phone are also some amazing earphones. The earphones work in the same way as ear plugs. They only allow the sound of your music to penetrate your ears. As result of this, your music does not need to played particularly loud which, in the long run, protects the ears of many. The phone also has a speaker feature so earphones are not always necessary. I must say this is not always a good thing. Many a time I have sat on a bus with someone who does not feel the need to used their earphones and believes everyone wants to hear their music. Please, should you have or plan to get this or a similar phone, do not be this person. The speaker system can come in handy for example of you want to share some music with peers or family where others will not be disturbed.
If you prefer not to use MP3s and are a greater fan of the radio, the phone works just as well for you. The phone has a great radio. It’s easy to find radio stations ( which generally sound almost unfaltering), it is also easy to save stations so you don’t always need to search for stations every time you want to listen to them. Like the MP3 player, the radio can be used with the earphones and loudspeaker. However, even when using loudspeaker the earphones are always necessary as the cord works as a antenna.
Although this is rarely the main reason one purchases a phone, the W810i has a good choice of games. Although the phone comes initially with two games, they can keep you entertained for a long time. One has a slight resemblance to Tetris (Quadrapop), the other is a somewhat numerous adventure game (JC Does Texas). Of course, there are additional games available.
There are also add ional entertainment features such as sound recording and photo, video and music Djs. Files created with these can be sent to friends.
As we know, not everyone is a phone master. Some people (such as my mother) aren’t too good when it comes to working a new phone. The great thing about the W810i is that it is fairly simple to use. The features of the phone are very easy to find and put into place. There are not complex routes to carry out simple tasks.
A feature of the phone that I did not know I had until I needed to use it is the ‘hold’ feature. If you are so popular that you receive calls whilst in the middle of another you can place one call on hold. Of you have a bit of trouble going back you your initial call press more then retrieve.
Another helpful feature is the ability to create shortcuts. The silver button to the right of the phone that you may have seen allows you to open a series of shortcuts as well as and bookmarks and new events such as missed calls and events in your calendar. It take this moment to also mention the calendar which is also a worthy feature. You can make events to be reminded. The phone also features such as an alarm, calculator, light, timer and stopwatch.
The camera is a feature that advertising tends to focus on. The quality of cameras on phones is only improving and this does not exclude the W810i. The camera is not perfect, but it possible to take some rather crisp pictures. With the camera videos can also be made and to assist with both of these processes is the light. Using the soft ware provided, videos and pictures taken can be copied to your computer and played with further.
As I’ve said, with the phone you can store MP3s, pictures, videos and items made with the various Djs. To make sure that you can take advantage or all of these features, the phone has a large storage capacity. I won’t wow you with technical jargon, what I will say is that the phone can store a large amount of videos, MP3s and miscellaneous files. Data can be stored on the phone as well as the memory card provided with the phone, memory card with a larger memory can also be purchased.
Your various file can also be sent and received from friend using the bluetoo9th of infared feature. No more paying to send these files!
Playing with the variety of features would kill most phones but I must say that the battery life of the W810i is impressive. I have gone up to 4 days without placing my phone anywhere near the charge (which also comes free with the phone).
Something that has also impressed me is the durability of the phone. It isn’t really damaged by the occasional drop. One of friends who also had this phone was rather drunk one night and accidentally dropped the phone is glass of water. After drying off completely, the phone worked just fine. However, I’m not suggesting that you drop your phone on water or throw it around to prove me wrong.
Despite the huge range of features the phone is compact is size. It doesn’t take up much space in you’re bag of pocket. In addition to this, if you have small hands, such as myself, using W810i with one hand is simple.
