Weaknesses: None except screen is quite reflective of daylight through window from behind viewer
Summary: (Edited February 13th by awolpe) Was looking to purchase the highly touted and widely reviewed Panasonic 50PHD8UK, but these were back-ordered and I went with this one instead, being told by a dealer that he had viewed the picture of this set side-by-side with the Panasonic and that the Sony was as good if not better. The Sony has the advantage of built-in HDCP compliant DVI, whereas a separate board must be purchased with the Panasonic. I have not seen the Panasonic, but the DVI display on the Sony is amazing. My 15 year old is a serious gamer and says these are the most amazing graphics he has ever seen. Connected his gaming computer (AMD4000+, two 7800GT cards in SLI config.) at 1366x768 resolution and the display with Age of Empires III and Halo was stunning. Picture with component video from DVD is excellent. I recently connected the HDMI output of a Toshiba SD-V592 DVD player using a Monster cable adapter, to the DVI input of the Sony. The 720p and 1080i upconversions from the player were handled seamlessly, diplaying the upconverted higher resolutions briefly on the on-screen display, and producing a beautiful extremely detailed picture. Cannot comment yet on HDTV quality as I do not yet have HDTV cable. Very happy with purchase.
